New spdif cable arrived in the post but still had no sound. So phoned the TV man in town who's had a look and fixed the problem. Not sure how he did it ? It's still connected via the spdif. He says the problem is with the amp streamer, it's lost a channel ? He used another channel. He spoke about analogue and digital and changed from one to another in the settings. Possibly now Dolby digital rather than stereo. The only difference is I have to use TV speakers with the optic output together and then turn the TV volume down and use just the optic. What a time to be alive.

I have gone full Scubar.
Been to visit the submarine pens at St Nazaire. There is also a French sub there you can visit.
The pens were smaller than i expected. Though i thonk the big complexes are at La Rochelle, Brest and L'Orient. The concrete is massively thick. Enough to survive bombing.
The sub L'espadon is not properly authentic as it is a post WW2 French sub, not a U-boat. It was good though worth visiting. Amazingly cramped. Living with 57 othe people on board must have been a nightmare

It has not.
