If I borrow a film on the laptop can I stream to the TV using Plex without having to download onto the Nas as I do at the moment That's what I do - but I borrow them to a server in Amsterdam and stream from there. If you're downloading to the laptop then yeah you can run a Plex server on it and stream to the telly. You might not even need to install a Plex server, you could probably just have a FileShare on the laptop from the folder you're downloading to and point the telly Plex client to that.

I'd be putting Plex onto Ubuntu 20.04 and I think half way through I'd be wishing that I'd not started. I've shelved the idea for now.

Create a samba share for your download folder. Then point the TV to that. Is it a smart TV with apps I take it? VLC sees samba shares quite well. The built in media player usually does as well. 99rdp.com/how-to-install-samba-on-ubuntu-20-04/Ignore the part about needing one of their VPS servers, but follow the steps.

If anyone wants to know about ripping music from Blu Rays I do that. Make MKV to remove the copy protection DVD audio extractor to get at the audio files MP3 Tag to clean up the tags. I also know about sharing concert bootlegs.
My TV is strictly Sky and Amazon Prime. I did have Netflix for free, but when they cracked down on that I did not pay for it.
Crankcaller is the person for TV streaming.

Sheeps uses Plex, but he's ignoring you. I don't blame him, so would I. I feel guilty now. Like I ought to start using Plex just so I can show you how to use it/ warn you off it if it is rubbish.

You can make amends for not knowing about Plex by pointing me in the right direction for NY downloads. I've installed the NY archives app but not registered. Is this the place I'm looking for and is Neil going to charge me for everything ?

Is this the place I'm looking for and is Neil going to charge me for everything ? It's $25 a year to stream all audio or $45 with video and the ability to look at old concerts. I only became a member because they messed up an order and gave me a year's free sub as an apology/tease. There's loads of hidden stuff on it. Do you like websites that are confusingly set out and and do the right stuff but in an odd way. If so NYA is the ideal place. There is a link to the Hi Res download store, on the main menu. store.neilyoungarchives.com/But you can stream absolutely everything.

I was in the bank yesterday, to conduct some business at the counter. I had to fumble around in my jacket a bit for my shotgun paperwork. When I'd retrieved that, I made eye contact with the young lady cashier, who said, 'Hi..., are you alright?'.
Of course I'm fucking alright, you cheeky sod. I AM NOT THAT OLD.
Honestly, some people.
