In gaming news, I'm determined to finish Octopus Sealslapper before getting completely befuddled by the control scheme in Dark Souls. I'm making good progress, currently on Alfyn's third chapter. My highlight yesterday was stealing a weapon that couldn't be obtained by other means with only a 15% chance of success. Then I found that I already had a better one. Yes, I'm stealing this man's prized possession just to put it on my pile of unused weapons. But to be honest he was a bit of a dick about it. Is OT still as good as it opened? Might put it on the list after RDR2 obviously. I played the timed demo and really enjoyed it, but it did feel like it may get a little repetitive. It is a little repetitive, but I think that's quite deliberate. If you don't have a lot of love for the game's battle system then there's not much to recommend; gameplay consists of fighting in random encounters between locations, fighting in smaller battles as part of advancing the story, fighting boss battles that are part of the story and fighting boss battles in optional dungeons. There's absolutely no puzzles apart from guessing which NPC needs to be interacted with to complete side quests. None of the many treasure chests are hidden, the point is to always show you where the chest is so you can figure out how to get there. However, the battle system is so intricate that it's endlessly entertaining. There was a point around the second chapter when I got worried that my guys were getting a bit OP, just to have the whole party wiped out in the next location. You've got to have a strategy for every major fight: who to take along, what job to give them, what boosts/debuffs to equip, and then make decisions on every turn, reacting to the enemies' strategy. I think that the developers are on record as saying that they envisaged the game to be played in short bursts, like before going to bed (although some boss fights can last for about 45 minutes), and that this is the reason why they wanted to develop it for the Switch. It's not a game for long gaming sessions.

No games, taking advantage of the sunny (not warm) weather and going for a hike and then a cold beer. No snow and dry.

Ugh, these kids are the worst. Hopefully a stranger offers to take them to get sweets soon. There should only be one. You'll be taking the extra one home with you. Hotel upgraded our room. Yay!

Royal Mail notification from this morning (after my game had a leisurely one-day stay at the Birmingham Mail Centre):
How normal is "normally", given that it's now 5:30pm? Is Dark Souls considered to be so challenging because the Asylum Demon has taken up residence in the mail distribution centre and has killed Postman Pat? Have Ornstein and Smough been hired to sort the mail?

I randomly met Fantomex while I was on a photoshoot in Leake Street tunnel. Who is that? A misguided attempt by the tipex industry at a shit ghoul-like mascot? Yeah, I've had a few drinks.

On the train on the way to Edinburgh yesterday there were a bunch of female students who looked like they'd been at a sporting event. They had an impromptu Harry Potter quiz on the train. Whats up with these people?
Lots of top knots being spotted in Edinburgh too. Giant pair of gardening shears required.
Morning! Games none, TV none. Hotel breakfasts one.
This hotel has a free late checkout thing on a Sunday. You can kick about till 5. That would be amazing if you were out late clubbing or boozing. Not so much if with child but hey ho.

Top knots as in full samurai type things of the 'cool' man bun that just rubs it in the face of bald people by having a terrible hairstyle?

I think Fantomex was a bit before your time in The Other Place. He has a plethora of body-mods, including black tattoo sleeves, cranial attachments, and a bisected tongue.
