Never mind the nerd stuff, what's in the cheese sandwich? ('cheese' is not an acceptable answer). Is "crushing disappointment" a viable answer?

Next generation gaming chat
It looks like both the PS5 and Xbox One successor will be more or less the same in spec, probably aim for 4k at 60 FPS and with a performance mode with higher FPS at either 1080p or 1440p. They both mention 8k resolution but this is almost certainly a red herring gaming wise and probably just relates to video output (in the same way my Xbox One S can output 4k video but only up scales games at 4k). There will probably be a mid life upgrade and perhaps at this point some type of 8k gaming will emerge (almost certainly up scaled or checker boarded) at a terrible frame rate (perhaps at the time Elder Scrolls 6 launches?).
Ray tracing will be a thing, but it's a renowned frame rate killer so I doubt it will be utilised much.
I expect both will be out November/December 2020 and if I am correct about the above I doubt I will get one unless a cheap 8k DVD player is thrown in.

Afternoon 'boxers. What a weekend that was. The place I work at laid another 30 folk off on Thursday, and my team are probably next in line so time to find a new job. I spent the weekend drinking heavily, getting a nail in the tyre repaired, moving heavy furniture, and arguing with my arsehole of a father, plus taking my friend out for steak for her birthday, and we went to pizza express yesterday too.
Games: Bit of God of War on the platinum hunt. Watched the MS conference last night, what a load of disappointment. Game streaming and Halo. Is that all you've got? Sony must be pissing themselves laughing. TV: None OTTM: Grand prix was fun.

Yeah, pretty much the same, so it’ll come down to exclusives, which is usually where Sony shines brighter.

Microsoft buying Double Fine could swing me though. Tim Schafer given a proper budget could produce something amazing.

Poor Mlu. Good luck in the job hunt.

As euphemisms go, that lacks subtlety.

I guess it's just you an me in this afternoon Shenguin. We should keep each other company so that we don't go mad with loneliness, or have to do some actual work.

I have literally just taken possession of a copy of Mario Kart. This is strictly to help out @smellavision so that he no longer has to take last place, you understand. The urge to unlock a few karts, drivers and cups right now is strong, but I have work to do. Must. Re. Sist. I was happy to see that the Keza & Keef E3 Show is back in town, although they are still difficult to find. I watched Microsoft's offering without them. It went on for too long, now it's all a colourful blur. Phil Spencer is a good egg who probably curses Don Mattrick's legacy as soon as he wakes up every morning and Xbox Game Pass is giving Google Stephen a run for its money. I'm probably the only person not excited for Cyberpunk 2077. For some reason I usually don't like bleak future/post-apocalyptic world scenarios. I am indeed rejoicing for Chumbles and his new bed! Sleep, sleep is good.

Sleep, sleep is good. I agree regarding "bleak future/post-apocalyptic world scenarios." I'm one of those who think Brave New World is prophetic, horribly close to the truth and moderately well written. And I loathe it for its nihilistic pessimism; its reduction of humanity to its lowest common denominator - there's enough of that in real life. If you're going to have a cyberpunk world for me it needs to be like the Shadowrun games, where there's magic! And I had had no idea how much distrust (justifiable - 5 mattresses failed in 6 years) was ensuring I never properly slept. I'm still going to have white nights, but there will be many fewer... A good night's kip-perhaps the most underrated thing in the world, with the sole exception of a decent piscatorial pun.
