There was a Fortnite question on Only Connect tonight. 18 series and finally a question I could get right.

Morning.
Tv - Watchmen. Finished with a proper “what the fuck?” moment.
OTTM - put the Christmas tree up. For all of the 7 days that I’ll be here. Off to Prague on Thursday, back Sunday, then off to Australia the following Saturday.

Tinsel in 90 degree heat would be weird.
I am back at work with 80 emails to wade through, many requiring me to read other documents or emails before responding.
I played some Apex and PUBG yesterday but the oven fumes affected my performance, thankfully I am better today.
I watched all of War of The Worlds as well, pretty mediocre.

I’m not going on holiday in an oven I’d be more concerned that my alcohol would evaporate. Although that might fulfil my fantasy of being a young lad working on vaporators on uncle Owens farm.

Your face is really fucking weird.
Is there anyone who’s response to this general election is not to fuck off to another country for a wee while and get drunk? If so, sucks to be you.
Today is my Thursday. Unfortunately that means that I probably have to pop into the office on my first Sunday with a slight hangover. A small price to pay.

Looks like Halo Reach is available for download at 6pm tonight if anyone is interested. I think it costs £6.99.

Game of the year
It is that time. For me there is a clear standout winner by some distance this year. I am prepared to call it early
QPR v Birmingham City
A slightly strange thriller. An even game overall, but each half was dominated by one team. We have a problem with Matt Smith. I do not know why but he always seems to score against us. He is not very prolific (Only 45 Championship goals, but 5 of them are against us) 4-0 up in 40 minutes was incredibly satisfying. 4-1 at Half time still seemed safe. 4-2 after 50 minutes less so. Mr Abti missed a sitter for 5-2 and it went to 4-3 after 80 minutes. It was 110% obvious that we would not cling on and at the start of injury time we duly conceded a penalty. Step forward the unfairly maligned Lee Camp who produced a magnificent save. 3-4 away win, last minute penalty save. Four stars
Given the dross of the rest of our games it was a pretty easy choice.

As far as I can recall, I have only played one game that was released this year. By default my GOTY is therefore Link's Awakening.
My favourite game that I've played this year is RDR2.

Apex Legends is my game of 2019. It was that or Borderlands 3. I bought no other modern games.

Outer Planets is I think the only modern have I've bought this year. It was quite good, not revolutionary, but still fun.
Appropriate number of stars.

For a moment I thought this was going to be another Swindon Town style collapse. I was there for that one. Still have memories of my mate beside me laughing his arse off as we conceded more and more and eventually lost.

GOTY is Skyrim for me. I think it was this year I started playing it, anyway. It’s gone back to the heap, mind you.

It is quite possible that 4-6 is mostly responsible for my intense dislike of Swindon and Glenn Hoddle. I remember it being obvious at 4-3 up that we were going to lose the game. There was just no way we could hold out even for a draw.

This time I actually played quite a lot of games that came out this year, all in the crowded release period of the second half of the year. However, I only completed one game, namely Link's Awakening. I'm happy to have it as my GOTY although it wasn't new to me.
If remakes don't count and it doesn't matter that I haven't played enough of a game then it gets more difficult. My candidates are Mario Maker 2, Dragon Quest Builders 2, and Luigi's Mansion 3. My brain says MM2, my heart says otherwise. If we are talking about the game that has been most compelling to me it's DQB2. Sorry.
However, I bought enough games this year to last me for the next year, so my 2020 and 2021 GOTY will probably be a 2019 release. Or maybe not - Animal Crossing is coming next year...

TV last night was HDM. Just three words why the whole scene didn't work: No. Dried. Fish.
I feel bad that I was supposed to be sad and wasn't. Mr Tent Rooster (who hasn't read the books) asked casually "What was in the fire?"
I hate to admit that Shenguin was right all along, the lack of daemons kills this adaptation. If they wanted people to care they should have had some establishing shots right at the beginning where we see the boy playing with and talking to his daemon and show how happy they are together. As it is, Pan reminds me of the cute/funny animal sidekick of various Disney princesses, because Lyra is the only one who's actually talking to her daemon. (Apart from Lee Scoresby and Hester, but that's dried up as well now.) That Serafina Pekkala and the other witches can be separated from their daemons unlike ordinary people, something that's going to be absolutely crucial later on, is just not conveyed properly if the audience constantly sees people without their daemon.
Like the Hollywood version they wrote poor Tony Makarios out of the script and that just doesn't work - the message from the alethiometer would have been completely different. And where were the people of the fishing village who were afraid of the ghost? Staying at home, looks like.
I've ordered a copy of Northern Lights to replace the one I've lost. It's even the same edition, so yay.

The Brexit Party have just put a leaflet through my door. The candidate is Terence McHale, he is a bald middle aged white guy, as I believe is their tradition. He works in IT admin, so is obviously one of life's winners and believes in the following:
To scrap inheritance tax. To end interest in student loans To reduce tariffs on non-EU goods To improve public transport To tackle homelessness and affordable housing
The whole piece looks a bit jumbled and incoherent with "I am ready" randomly stated in bold in the centre.
