Where I work now is full of turkeys voting for Christmas. Well, it’s defence so more like turkeys voting for more food in the short term but Christmas is still coming.

It's a combination of the sound mix, poor TV speakers and the sound chip in the TV.
For some reason TV programmes are often not mixed to sound good from the speakers in flat screen TVs. Even though that is far and away the most popular way of listening. The TV set can compensate for that if the makers of the TV care enough.
You can add in the problem that a lot of films are mixed with the effects set higher than the dialogue which does not help if you want the TV on so it does not disturb others, but you can still hear it. The best solution is a separate centre channel as this usually carries dialogue and very little else. With a soundbar or 5.1 system you can lift the dialogue and turn down the bass, which largely resolves the problem.
The only TVs that seem to sort the problem themselves are the top end ones for each brand. If you don't mind dropping £1,500+ on a TV you should get ok sound at reasonable levels.

Is the sound on Netflix, Iplayer etc just shit or is it my telly? The telly is a big LG Oled thing which I thought should be fairly ok. But bass(gunfire etc) often seems too loud and speech hard to hear. NowTV is exactly the same on my wife's LG. Turn it up for the talkie bits and then WHAMMMMOOO!

I am never happy with the sound from modern day big smart TVs, I ended up buying a soundbar which made loads of difference.

Today is my last day before the apocalypse.
My stocks of IPA, Lemon Cordial and Toilet Paper are about to come into their own.
Games. None. TV. After TentHen’s mention HIGNFY I watched a couple of episodes of that, but iPlayer was playing up. It wasn’t funny. Film. It’s Christmas so I started my watching of The Hobbit last weekend. Finished ep2 last night. Thought I’d also watch the extras - now I’m not usually a fan of ‘Behind The Scenes’ stuff as it spoils the magic for me. Just realised that Stephen Colbert got a cameo in Laketown. Ruined the whole thing for me now.

The worst MP has to be that prick from Aberdeenshire who is both a rabid ERG style Tory and a referee. Scores off the scale on the cunt test.

I blame the actors. They need to talk louder.

I was shown a trailer. Its free Monster Hunter, and seems well done. It drops you right in with multiplayer groups (although you can jump in early by yourself if you want), which is kind of the fun and easy mode in Monster Hunter games. Its good to just smash a few monsters, although I'm sure it does get proper hard at some point. They've nailed the core monster hunter stuff from what I've seen.

Soundbar if you can't have too many trailing wires. 5+.1 if you can.

Dauntless looks ok. I'll add it to the list of games I'll never have time to play.

Jeff tricked me into buying a raspberry pi 4, the prick. My last pi project is still sat gathering dust in the spare room ffs. I really need to enable parental controls for myself.
Anyway, in better news I've just seen that Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is getting remastered for the Switch next year. Hopefully it'll be early on as I'm off shift in Q2, back to the soul sucking agony of 9 to 5 and a distinct lack of 'pro'-gaming time.
Anyone have any decent little projects for a pi? No doubt I'll just turn it into another emulation station, but it'd be nice to have the illusion of choice.

Anyone have any decent little projects for a pi? I have a friend who uses it to stream either free or cheap tv programmers to his main TV. I can't remember the name of the application he uses though and I can't remember if it even gave a HD let alone 4k picture. In my opinion those PIs aren't worth the effort, but if you put a gun to my head and made me do something with it I would try and make a portable gaming device.

Could Shenguin (or someone competent)make a Pi emulate a PS4? That way he could get round his ban.
More likely to work emulating a pS1 or ps2 I would think

I appreciate that you cannot necessarily make a direct Shenguin/someone competent substitution.

I think one of his step kids beat him at fortnite, so he threw a massive hissy fit and now no one can play it.

As a foretaste of the upcoming apocalypse, we've just had a 90 minute power cut. Just enough time to realise the house is getting cold, drag up a barrowload of logs and get the woodburner going. Power is now restored, heralded by neighbours house alarm going mental. They are at work, so it won't be cancelled anytime soon. Bastards.

Fortunately I live in an extremely safe constituency. The big 3 parties here have traditionally been Tories, UKIP and Labour. The Lying Democrats have often had problems even getting someone to stand in council elections. It is not going to make the slightest bit of difference which way I vote, so you can all rest safe in your beds. Since I gained the franchise I have lived in four constituencies. 3 of them were so safe (1 Red, 2 Blue) that turnout is often depressed as the result is a foregone conclusion and there is no effective campaign. The other one I never got to vote in. Are you saying it's fortunate we live in Sutton for voting reasons? I'm confused. Surely it's unfortunate as we can't oust Mitchell and get the others in?

I’m at my first Xmas lunch. I’m ten minutes late and yet the first person here.
They’ve all gone somewhere else, haven’t they.
