So I went to see that Star Wars, was there actually a backlash against it being too PC, or was that just hyper bowl? Because I honestly can't think of anything that was even slightly 'political correctness gone mad'. Does having non-whites and women in a film now make it PC gone mad? Basically I can't see how anyone could have a problem with it on those grounds unless they are mentally deficient in some way.
Overall I thought it was top, banana wise.

I did not enjoy the new Star Wars, it had nothing to do with being too PC, it was just rubbish.

The pain is consigned to my right leg, sometimes as high as the buttock but mostly it's around the ankle and calf. When I lay down the pain builds particularly in my ankle and at all times of day putting on my right sock brings awful pain. I'm doing the stretching exercises on the NHS Sciatica page and moaning a lot in terms of current attempts to heal. A&E now... 999 stuff - it sounds very like something pressing on the spinal cord. I fell over Xmas Eve; bruised a few bits of arm; strained an intercostal muscle. Was told to go to A&E - it would have been overnight then told to take PKs and go home. You don't know what the cause is, or treatment - if it's not a pinched sciatic nerve, then your attempts to alleviate your pain may actually be causing more severe problems - your situation is what A&E is for - take your toilet bag, mobile and charger Chumbles advice - take or leave as you will

The hatred from some quarters (including me) is that Disney made a conscious decision to destroy the extended canon - 100s of books, 3 tv series, dozens of films. Initially bumping off ahsoka tano to boot - then determination to write their garbage storylines all across the canon like some vandalising graffiti enrages many

Surely Disney's decision to destroy the extended canon was to avoid more nuanced criticisms? Obviously they didn't account for the fact that nerds will always find something to rage about because every single one of them wants something different from 'their' favourite franchise.
Enjoy something or don't, there's no point in complaining about it. Even if they erased the latest trilogy and made another, taking on board most of the suggestions by 'fans' there'd still be something 'wrong' for the same 'fans' to complain about. It's a film for kids ffs, maybe everyone who loved it as kids, outgrew it as adults?
EDIT: I should add that this isn't aimed at anyone on here in particular, although it may seem like it. It's more just a general observation of various BTL sections on sites any time there's an article about Star Wars. Also, I've never liked it. Watched the original and prequel trilogies and tried the first of the new trilogy but they just never clicked.

It's a film for kids ffs, maybe everyone who loved it as kids, outgrew it as adults? That is interesting ... ffs I watched the original trilogy in my 30s. The fact that you quite mistakenly believe that SW is for kids only is wrong ... Or are you going to also tell me that at v nearly 70 to grow up and stop playing games? "Enjoy something or don't, there's no point in complaining about it." then what's the point in discussing anything in here? We all publish our reactions in here - what an asinine statement ... no offence. My original response was to explain why a very sizable proportion of adult 'nerds' or trekkies are hostile to the schism. That's no reason why others can either be fans of the new canon or like the films. As for your "avoid more nuanced criticisms" that's absolute fucking bollocks. They wanted to have a situation that future stories wouldn't be shackled by what had gone before is it... and they did in fact want a more ethnically, sexually diverse sequence to reflect modern attitudes. But modern attitudes and respecting the extended canon aren't mutually exclusive - hence Ahsoka's picture. All of the extended canon was written under licence and signed off by LucasArts... who also produced and commissioned some of this extended canon. By selling all the rights to Disney, George cut off at the legs people like Zahn whose writing career was momentarily screwed. But there are signs that La Kennedy's vision of SW's future is trending back towards inclusion. And I do agree there are some folk who take their dislike to unhealthy extremes... EDIT Written before your edit

I can see why you would think that was aimed at you Chumbles, hence why I edited and understand your original response. I just don't get how some people believe throwing their toys out of the pram and hurling abuse at anyone involved with the project will change anything for the better (that's what my 'enjoy it or don't' bit was trying, and obviously failing, to say). I don't know, I'm just spouting into the abyss now. Just pissed off that I'm working when I should be relaxing watching shit TV and gorging on cheese, pickles, chocolate and alcohol.

Just bought Witcher 3 from the GOG sale. Need to stop buying games in sales but they've all been things I should play at some point.

Like Banyfark I did not like the new star wars at all. Nothing to do with the canon, though i am sure that is a legit issue - I just thought it was badly put together. Much preferred Force Awakens and the Last Jedi. No offence to those who wrongly disagree. Except Tuffers in light of his horrific list. Neil Innes adjacent chat: I used to drink in a pub where the drummer from the Rutles was landlord. It was quite expensive. Ganes: I downloaded Crusader Kings II as it's free on Steam. I have not played it yet. OTTM: Liverpool has some great bars.

I'm being telling myself that, it's about time we embraced the truth, we'll never play all the games we buy. 212... I'm insane ... I have 1.6 terabytes of audio books... All of Mozart ... and I play Neptune's Pride 2 at double speed... I'm 70 in not many months time and I still play AoW3 FfH1 Alpha Centauri/Crossfire as well ... I will probably not live long enough to listen to more than 5% of the stuff I've got and as for squeezing another game in, I'm more likely to repeat the Shadowruns than play a new game - they are brilliant story games... *Shadowrun Returns on GoG is £2.89, DRM free!
