I think you have ShitLock on... For the record the vast majority of those celebrants in the REAL box were thinking thank fuck Hitler's defeated. And relief that they were that much less likely to die. My mother at the time of that photo was in hospital, and my father stuck in Alexandria until 1947, because he was the Royal Engineers expert on repairing and servicing Scammell diesel fuel injection engines*. It was the most destructive war in history... Russian and Eastern European civilians suffered dreadfully and are far and away the largest contributors to that blue bit, with the Chinese coming in next. You should at least respect the sacrifices of the dead.

Hi Chumbles, I don't mean any disrespect to those, civilians or military, who died or suffered in the war. In particular, I am happy to appropriately honour those who were brave enough to give their lives in the fight against fascism. However, that absolutely does not mean that I agree with the enforced trite sentiment or the repurposing of memorials to support the current right-wing zeitgeist.

Morning all.
Happy VE Day.
Apparently the Daily Mirror (curse, spit) have organised for a Spitifre to fly across the south east of England in commemoration, so I'm planning my Government-sanction exercise to coincide with both the Spit and I being near/on the clifftop at the same time. Information is sparse, though. I'm not even sure it'll be flying near Saltdean, as it is bound for Ovingdean (a bit further down the coast).
Gamesblog: none.
TVblog: Nailed It, and then the last two episodes of Justified S2.

I understand that Shenguin , but why couldn't you have posted a more reasoned comment in the Friday thread? The implications of a separate thread and the title, besides only being appropriate in terms of BoJo's flawed impersonation of Churchill, is that VE day is about that. And it isn't. Furthermore, it's literally divisive and disrespectful to our glorious leader. If you weren't such a nice guy I'd be ramping up the rant. My response may also have been OTT, but I'm awake at that time because my legs are stopping me from going to sleep; and I also have the prospect of a visit by Nursey in a few hours to sour my mood... You've been a very naughty boy...

Don't bother with the Other thread; just Shengers missing the appropriate hole...

The picture at the top looks like it's from WW1, still appropriate though.

Fair enough. I hadn't actually seen most of the Friday thread when I posted, and I wasn't very sober last night. I'd probably have changed the title of the thread, but I can't work out how to.
I mean, at the very least I'd have corrected the typo.
I feel it's all Destry's fault really, that there's basically a written record of what is in essence a drunk thing I said last night.

I'm pretty sure that's a photo of the Rangers board dropping off their dossier of SPFL misdeeds to the SPFL offices yesterday. Fair play to them for keeping Scottish football fans entertained during the absence of actual football.
Ottm: totally forgot about the weekly clap last night, and yet again I was sitting right next to the window facing the street munching snacks in my dressing gown while the neighbours glared at me.

I know people have added gfp to certain animals and in the us you can buy glowing zebra fish. Boars would be an interesting progression, making it easier to hunt possibly and then making a very strange wall ornament. I guess I have found the next crispr project to try and get funded. Anyone do the Xbox game pass for pc or the free stadia thing? How is the geforce now thing from whoever on here had it?

According to my father (who transferred from the TAs to the regular army before the war), the enlisted troops trained with the Home Guard. The regulars grew to be terrified of these exercises as the Dad's Army part-timers made up for lack of weapons with booby traps, like collapsing a wall on a file of soldiers seeking cover. Some of the Home Guard were formed into top secret units of guerrilla fighters and they were never released from the Official Secrets Act (just in case), so only a little is known of them, but I heard a programme about them and they were very nasty...

Anyone do the Xbox game pass for pc or the free stadia thing? How is the geforce now thing from whoever on here had it? Yes, yes, yes. Gamepass. good value at the moment while in beta. £3.99. Make sure you know what games are being taken off every couple of Months though. I started Tomb Raider a week ago and coming off on Fri. Xbox streaming thingy being added to it at some point. Stadia. Doing the free demo. Only played GRID from the free games. Expensive as you have to buy games from them. Works well on iPad & Nvidia shield. Geforce Now. Was using in Beta for years. Loads of games have been pulled but it works very well. As you play steam games you can obviously get them cheaper. Both stadia/Geforce now you can try for free.

Well I tried the Cloud eggs, got all the way through to the part where you put the egg yolk onto the cooked white and it stuck to the ramekin and broke, I also did the same with the second one. So after a major sulk dished it up to pref.mam. who said it was very nice and offered several helpful suggestions on how to avoid the broken eggs. A couple of thoughts, use an electric whisk and smaller bowl* for the egg yolks, I will try again in a few days. *maybe buttered

I’ve heard rumours of a streetwide round of applause and singalong to “We’ll meet again”
Yeah, I’m not doing it. My street can fuck right off, I want to move anyway.
