Guy next door has been round. Guy across the street doing a speech. Then the silence.
Jeff's not delivered my Waffen SS tank commander cosplay outfit in time. That will be getting sent back.

I'm out on our street drinking beer. In a strange twist, so is everyone else.
Cheers!

Hello, I have just been informed that we are camping out in the garden tonight. I have been told in no uncertain terms that it will be, and I quote:
"fun"

Morning!
We have one of the flags in Admin's picture in the space between the outer and inner front door.* Well, not exactly the ones pictured but actually a much larger Union Jack** on a wooden flag pole that was carried around at the VE parade.
As for minutes of silence, today at 11 a.m. I was playing Animal Crossing, admittedly silently. If there was another minute's silence at 3 p.m. then thanks to the chat I narrowly avoided a terrible faux pas because I almost emptied the recycling container into the outside bin at 3 o'clock. Leave it to the Germans and their empty beer bottles to ruin the moment.
Yesterday was a busy day with a grocery delivery that took ages to put away and arranging another medicine delivery for Monday. Neither activity was helped by a persistent backache. I will say this though, the amount of baked goods in the house is impressive. I might have ordered a bit too much of this and that.
I have also been busy writing instructions for setting up the Animal Crossing Switch that was supposed to get delivered to the grandchildren yesterday. All day the tracking information said that the parcel was at the local depot, then sometime in the early hours of this morning this got changed to "We're sorry your parcel has been delayed, we'll have it on the move in the next 24 hours", whatever that means. Weirdly the time stamp for this event is 10:32 (am? pm? fuck knows) on the website and 11:32 on the app. Hopefully it's just the usual Hermes cockup and nothing to do with the virus.
Apparently what with a new trampoline to bounce on in the garden the eldest granddaughter isn't enthusiastic about school work. She'd better improve her reading skills and her numeracy or Tom Nook is going to get her hopelessly into debt. Oh, he's going to do that anyway. Carry on bouncing then.
*Yeah, yeah, shameless double front door boasting, I know.
**Yeah, yeah, it's a Union Flag and not a Union Jack, I know.

Is it safe for me to come in here?
VE Day in Germany is known as "Liberation Day" which is why I've never thought of it as a day of victory by anyone over anyone else but the day when Germans were set free from the nightmare they brought on themselves. In Germany it is not supposed to be a "Feiertag", a 'day of celebration' but rather a "Gedenktag", a 'day of reflection', because any kind of victorious celebration is obviously the privilege of the Allied Forces. However, over the last years that attitude has changed as many Germans including myself have nothing but positive associations with that date and it is only far right idiots that are opposed to making what they regard as a day of surrender an official holiday. My art teacher at school once talked about her memories of the end of the war. She was a little girl when she encountered US troops (some of them black, which was a novelty) for the first time in the village where she grew up. They were very friendly, handed out chewing gum and pulled her pigtails. She described it as the happiest day of her life. This is, of course, a West German attitude towards the end of the war and for others the memories are less happy. Still, I don't know anyone who thinks of the German war casualties (that include my grandfather and my mother's baby brother who was killed in one of the British air raids on Hamburg) as people who were killed by Allied Forces. They were victims of the Nazi regime.

When Nursey gets scheduled for an afternoon visit, it pretty much wrecks the day; the anticipation chokes off any appetite (literally - I'm due a dilatation operation). But they don't tell you it's an afternoon visit, so I am keyed up , concentration is terrible except for games; and even those I don't play optimally. Age of Wonders 3 is brilliant for absorbing attention and so apart from the prep, the treatment, getting the laundry on and cleaning the house while the the morphine is still masking the pain (water and stuff on two of the floors, bits of skin and blood on another etc. etc. - nurses are messy creatures) I finished the current campaign. Meet my next leader DarQuarraja Roothealer, my Dwarven Arch Druid: The morph is just about gone, so I won't be in much, if at all for today now

I played Reach, it's pretty good and looks almost like a modern game.
Lots of Union Jacks out there and a big street party the next road over where everyone is sat outside their home drinking.

None of my neighbours seemed to be outside at 3, even the ones who clap on Thursdays. I can only conclude they love the NHS but hate Britain.
