I though the 're-design' was purely visual, not changing direction for the content on the guardian. I think the real issue is that having half or more of the articles on the games section consist of fish pun comments and eggy bum chat doesn't look too good to the higher ups when you have just been hired as the visioneering new blood running the games section. Which is completely understandable. Logic and understanding?? Getouttahere! It's just the fact they've kind of just shit on the whole guardian games community. It became too much hassle to moderate. Plus, the Guardian is essentially a protest publication and our perceived demographic is unlikely to have had many of the remaining staff volunteering to take the chatterbox forward.

It became too much hassle to moderate. So, essentially, it's all your fault?

The Chatterbox was not much of a hassle. I don't buy into that as an excuse. If they had a problem with moderating comments they wouldn't allow any comments on articles relating to sexism and Feminism.
It's just cut backs. Chatterbox was Keef's baby and he saw value in it but the rest of the G no longer does, so they don't want to pay for the costs involved or make the minimal effort to create the articles. They have done it before with the music blogs (I think when Michael Hann left) and with the CIF community thing. The person who set stuff up leaves and no one will take over so it dies.
Their losses are widening. They are burning through the Autotrader £1 billion at an alarming rate.

Of course there’s nothing stopping us from just posting on the ordinary games articles that are going up fairly often now.

I don't feel the Guardian is the paper it was when I first started reading it 30 years ago. It's not even what it was 5 years ago.

I'm just surprised that such an effortless reader engagement tool has been discarded. The Chatterbox should have been presented to Keza as a successful and desirable feature, not as something she was discouraged to revive. A regular, engaged readership is a natural defence force against random internet trolls making new accounts just to talk shit in the comments on certain articles.
Games: In Zelda I've made the long journey on foot from Zora to Rito territory to complete Rivali's challenge, taking in the sights on the way by going after treasure chests and Korok seeds. Found a new Talus and a new Hinox. I haven't talked to Kilton recently, but I need to figure out whether Stalnoxen (is that the pl.?) are included in the count of Hinoxen (Hinoxes? Hinoces?). Spent a long time on Satori Mountain; it very obviously is a tribute to Satoru Iwata, as delightful as he was.

I don't feel the Guardian is the paper it was when I first started reading it 30 years ago. It's not even what it was 5 years ago. It is and it isn't. The world has changed more than the newspaper has. There was no internet when I started reading it. The morning news was often still the stuff from last night's headlines. So you could read the paper during the day and feel you were up to date. Now the actual paper feels and is out of date even if you buy it at 7 a.m. I only buy the Saturday paper now. For 25+ years I bought the paper every day I think there are far too many comment pieces. I suppose you need readers every day, but there is a lot of noise over trivial shit. The other problem is that many big issues don't really change much. When the same (non) solutions to the same problems are rolled out repeatedly it is more noticeable when you can easily search back through articles. The G is really cutting back though. Too many cheap articles and recycled press releases. It is a shame. Some of the big stuff is still good - the Panama/Paradise papers in particular.

Hmm.. A post on the MHW thread at the other place (from DeadPirate something or other) which I assumed to be PirateCaptain, and to which I responded has mysteriously disappeared without trace, despite being on-topic.
Did I just imagine it?

Hounded out of the G, should we head to the telegraph just to show them? Monster hunting last night, what's with the investigations? Not sure what they want or are giving.

Where she posted it safe in the knowledge that the chatterbox demographic is not social media savvy enough to whip up a 'twitter storm', and cause twitter itself to go into 'meltdown'. Did I say it right, Bloggie? Nailed it! #yoofspeak I'm actually not on twitter so probably not best person to ask, not a fan of social media. I'm a miserable old bastard at heart, it's why I feel so at home here.

Investigations are useful when you need to farm a specific monster for parts for gear. You just activate the ones you want so as not to clog up your quest board. Trying to find the hunts you want in the investigation list is another matter though. I had to scroll through 11 pages to find the one I wanted last night. A search function would help.

Lunchtime confessions - I had a bacon and chicken mayo sarnie with quavers and a dandelion and burdock can of pop. I will revert to the usual penance on Monday.
