Is that it? I'm on tender hooks here. *cough* tenter hooks. Tenterhooks or tenter hooks are hooked nails in a device called a tenter. Tenters were wooden frames which were used as far back as the 14th century in the process of making woolen cloth. Yes, I'm sorry. Every day's a school day! PS use *this* as far back as the 14th century.

I always feel like the point deduction for going into administration is a bit like kicking someone when they’re down. It does seem a bit harsh, particularly as, if they finish in the bottom 3 and are relegated the points deduction applies next season. So they need to be at least 12 points clear of the bottom three to remain in the Championship. They are currently eight points clear of the drop zone with six matches left to play.

I think it's fair, to stop clubs gaining an advantage by overspending, then using admin to escape the consequences.

I think it's fair, to stop clubs gaining an advantage by overspending, then using admin to escape the consequences. The Leicester clause. Leicester went into admin on relegation in 2002. They stepped away from a load of debt and got promoted in 2003.

It's happened to both Hearts and Dundee up here, with hilarious consequences. We should have known something was up when Dundee signed Caniggia and Ravanelli.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/01/french-drivers-top-european-road-rage-table-survey-revealsI am surprised. My experience in driving abroad since 1992 is that the French have got much better. They don't tailgate like they used to. And they have got used to roundabouts. And the lack of 2CVs on modern roads is a genuine bonus. The worst place to drive in Western Europe is Belgium. The worst place in Belgium is Antwerp. Maybe I have been unlucky and only gone through it at very busy times. France is fine, Germany and the Netherlands are very good. Switzerland is annoying as they all stick to the speed limit. Spain and Italy are mostly ok. The periphique around Paris is authentically terrifying though. It's like the M25 with narrow lanes and less personal space. And terrible traffic jams. Mostly due to the shunts. Most of the big cities aren't too bad. There is nothing like being lost in a strange small town that doesn't have signs. Because why would anyone want to leave?

Switzerland is annoying as they all stick to the speed limit. You clearly haven't driven around Zurich. I also saw a driver in Zurich drive so drunk they hit every packed car in the side of the road.

Seville was my worst driving experience. Genuinely terrifying.
The A96 is pretty bad too. Absolute deathtrap.

And in Summer going from light to dark and back so your eyes continually have to adjust causing 3-4 seconds you are blinded when some dick of a parisien decides to chop you up... We counted the burnt out wrecks when we transitted a quarter of it on our way to Brive... 10; we came off and I never drove on that thing again. I found it much more fun to get into Paris by Eurostar and Metro - most of Paris is walkable and you see much more. And if you're bonkers enough to drive... They aren't parked, this lot! On foot you can see much more and it's a great place to take a camera... (c) Chumbles, April 2006

My worst being driven experiences were in India, in Bangalore, where there are simply no observable rules (dual carriageways are driven both ways in both lanes and only the deep, deep potholes and weight of traffic stops huge fatalities)...
and Tel Aviv, where the horns blare away 24/7 and everyone believes they have right of way - I watched two cars on a 2 into 1 lane bit gradually inch closer and closer until they slowly crunched wings, whereupon they both leapt out of their cars screaming and shouting at each other. Every bloody car had their horns going then. I asked the taxi driver if this was normal. He shrugged "Every day... it's only just started..." He was right, the drivers' wives got out of the cars; then other drivers... until some cops drove up on the other carriageway with loudhailers and what I took to be Uzis and some very hard faces....

Iceland was the first, and nicest, foreign country that I drove in. Reykjavik was like a busy suburb of Brighton. And as soon as you were out of the city, near-empty roads. Bliss.
Tuscany on the other hand... never again... not in the cities, anyway.

Seville was my worst driving experience. Genuinely terrifying. The A96 is pretty bad too. Absolute deathtrap. I enjoyed driving around in Seville. Invigorating. Florence as well. So many mopeds so little space. I also enjoyed the coastal motorway from Malaga to Gibraltar. Like something out of Mad Max A rules free road is always good fun. It helped that I was in a left hand drive manual car in Spain so about 80% of the time I wanted to change gear I attempted to open the door first.

I've been to Versailles and Fontainebleau. Both require a willingness to drive round the peripherique.

Didn't drive there, but on the bus in Cairo was the closest I think I've been to automotive death. How many lanes are there?what's the speed limit? How well do you have to maintain your car? All optional apparently.

That's plain wrong... try this site for how to get to Versailles cheaply by train/metro... and this for getting to Fontainebleau (buses every 15 minutes throughout the day at Avon). Both in 'normal' times, of course ...
