Most of the time I don't know why I bother paying my subs to the Guardian. But then some days, when I wake up and wonder "who exactly is the blackest white band of our time?" I know the G will have it covered.

I’d pay £10 a month to not go to events with Owen Jones. Owen Jones looks like a combination of Geoffrey Hayes and Tim Farron.

Star Waughs! Top banana
Morning toilet slammers. The new pumpkin features in ACNH is peaking my interest, perhaps for the next week or so at least.
Feeling a bit worse for where, hopefully not the bat pox. I was on the train for about 3 hours on Tuesday...

Unless it's fake news and he's just struggling in the office hustings against Wide Andy. His team have told him to sit this one out. Hmmm....

This evening, I've lost a few days off my lifespan courtesy of my son cartwheeling down the stairs, head over heals numerous times.
Rum tonight, I think.

What rum? Its a couple of hours since, and he seems fine, thankfully. It was completely accidental - tripped on his own slippers, and he wasn't holding onto the bannister like we always tell him. Happened right in front of me, so I had that thing where your brain is rushing through plans of action, but you're physically unable to get there in time.

Happened right in front of me, so I had that thing where your brain is rushing through plans of action, but you're physically unable to get there in time. Apparently children are quite good at bouncing. "Children are more resilient," says Dr Alistair Sutcliffe, senior lecturer in paediatrics at University College London. "It's simple physics. They have chubbier bodies and a higher proportion of body water so they are more robust to injury. They have more padding around their bodies and they generally recover quickly." "Children are soft and they do bounce. They can escape injury if they fall from a first-floor window but an adult won't. This advantage probably lasts until puberty when the skeleton becomes more like an adult's"

And are much lighter so don't hit as hard when they do land on something.
Plus their bones are more flexible so can survive things that would cause fractures in adults

On the other hand pushing your child down the stairs is still not recommended by many childcare experts.

Something we learned early on as part of our journey to be martial artists and instructors is that children will have what is known as 'green stick' bones up until the age of 21 years old, when their bones start to harden into adulthood. If you think of how a young trees branches are - softer more pliable - you understand what the term means, as the tree gets older the branches become more robust.
edit: this why traditional Jujitsu isn't taught until the age of 17 and a junior in Kodokan Judo isn't considered for senior Judo until at least 16 at the earliest.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, chaps. He was just a little shocked, but I was the one who was shaking and needed a sit-down... plus a glug on the bottle of rum...
