Thanks Felice; I'll bear that in mind, but I am pretty much resigned to getting a new main rig (which will be a higher spec than the current one)* and moving the current main rig and monitor upstairs. It's the monitor I need to operate twixt the two. *@amipal - I remember your comment asking why did I need a high spec machine to play NP2 et al. It's a reasonable question. The answer is that I don't want to accept that I am not going to recover sufficiently to play things like space exploration / battle games. I've supported the Kickstarter for Elite, bought the HOTAS etc. There are some vital reasons for this. For someone who is currently housebound and disabled and has been so for over 6 years, coming back from near death 4 times, accepting limitations means effectively giving up yet another little bit of hope of recovery. Acceptance of restrictions is much more dangerous than the infection* that's causing me such agonies atm. There's a massive psychological component to my continued survival. I'm an awkward, cross-grained old bastard who just won't give up. *(Would you believe that the District Nurses have to get permission before they can take a sample for microbiology to analyse it and recommend an antibiotic? I could lose the goddamned leg before that happens, which will take infinitely greater NHS resources and expose me to a much higher risk of dying. Fuckwits.)

Knowing Admin, that’s an actual photo of Tenthen that he’s photoshopped onto that comic book. Photoshopped? No, this is a picture from my last vacation when I went on a road trip in the Cotswolds. You wouldn't believe what happened after I met a group of Morris dancers! All I can say is that skeletal remains are very, very uncomfortable to sit on. I gave up smoking shortly afterwards.

The amount of different antibiotic resistance that can be picked up from people or animals in the community is scary. Hopefully not a problem for you chumbles All hail Jeff day has £35 psnow.

What about a decent 1440 monitor then and not need to upgrade parts? I am planning to upgrade the main beast. But I guess it's unfair to ask busy guys to give up their time. I'm just going to have to slog through all the reports / reviews when time and eyesight permit!

Thanks; sadly I'm allergic to Penicillin (which a locum provedwhenhe suggested I try Penicillin again, as it was 45 yrs since I'd had an allergic reaction ... 11th December 2016 after 36hrs taking it I was in A&E - total gastrointestinal failure, septic shock, cardiac arrest imminent - and v close to death. 4 central lines (4 canuli), 8 units of blood + loads of other fluids and 2 days in intensive care. And v lucky to survive.) And the Sulfonamides.

For Chumbles the issue is less antibiotics resistance than allergy to penicillin. The Pref.Mam. has the same problem and it's, well, a problem. Chumbles keeps encountering medics who are hellbent on killing him with that stuff.

It absolutely isn't continuous assassination attempts narrowly thwarted by Chumbles' vigilant insistence on living.

Today is not only the holy day of the blessed St. Jeff, it's also my eldest granddaughter's birthday. Tomorrow is the birthday of her twin brothers. And since her younger sister's birthday is two days after Christmas, Super Nan had to organise a major birthday present bonanza for all of them.
Apparently the eldest is having trouble keeping her stuff out of the reach of her sister. They are also going to move to a new house next week, so I got her a set of lockable metal trunks (including a pink one, natch) to defend her property*. Now I'm getting ads for storage stool samples on every webpage. Except for here, where it's all about Amazon Prime Day. Thanks for that.
I had a brief look at Jeff's offerings. They were rubbish, but I ordered some sealant to fix a loose glass pane in the back door.
The builders keep knocking down bits of the house around me at the moment, although they promised to put it back together in a fashion that will be the envy of all the neighbours. Apparently next door neighbour is already jealous of our new fancy plastic fascia and has asked them for a quote. I hope they'll charge him more than us. They are certainly charging us enough to make me want to break into the nearest bank.
*That's a terrible present for a seven year old, so she also got some, err, "LOL Surprise Lights Glitter" dolls**, or, as her mother calls them, pieces of overpriced plastic tat. It's what she wanted more than anything else, who am I to tell her that she's filling the oceans with plastic? In future this is going to become her problem, not mine.
I can already see future archaeologists unearthing these dolls and interpreting them as votive figures in an enigmatic but widespread cult ca. 1800 AD.
**I'm still drawing the line at anything from the "Poopsie" toy range because they are abominations in the sight of God.

I wouldn't worry about the neighbours. Someone has been handing used swabs for testing in Selly Oak, so pretty soon the neighbour problem will be fixed

tenthenemyWe had builder-people in yesterday. Well, one builder and one carpenter. The builder laid a nice new tiled-floor in the porch, and put some skirting around both it and the conservatory (my attempt at skirting in the latter was fine for the first strip, but then turned into a heresy against woodwork with future strips). The carpenter, meanwhile, replaced the warped windowsills in the conservatory. These warped because a) the exterior sills weren’t sealed underneath, and b) they were installed whilst the plaster was still drying. The replacement look good, and have a fresh coat (well, two coats) of outdoor varnish on them. Hopefully that should prevent future water ingress.

Morning all. Gamesblog: Skyrim. A ton of inventory management, then an explorative trip up-river from Windhelm. I stumbled upon a cave, and moidered the bandits within. 4* TVblog: that GBBO. A close-run thing. you never should have gone there. Btw are there any mage-specific greetings you get from guards?

Following on from Sheep2 's surprisingly valuable advice, I have configured the attached machine on www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ website*. I would've gone with Quiet PC but astonishingly their configuration engine doesn't cater for both a high end graphics card and a high end sound card combo. Overclockers cost me a ton of cash with my big rig... *My silent 2nd machine is based on a pcspecialist machine. Back in a couple of hours ... 1860539.pdf (524.51 KB)

I've recommended PCSpecialist here before, I bought my PC* from them and everything was as ordered and worked. They were also very good at aftercare even giving advice well after the insurance ran out about a power supply even when they knew I wasn't buying it from them. 4* Chumbles I'm sure that if you rang them up they'd sort our the website deficiencies. *sorry "rig"
