He had a polo-neck jumper on and was delivering milk tray.

Tenth Enemy If you take your laptop you can zoom call your doctor from within his office. A meta physical examination. I tried that, but after half an hour or so I had to give up on the colonoscopy. You monster! Poor bastard... he'll never walk again.

The 1950s were a great time for nuclear weapons researchers. Nuclear torpedoes, nuclear depth charges, nuclear air-to-air missiles (just point it at the bomber-swarm...). Although my favourite has to be the SLAM: the Supersonic Low Altitude Missile. A nuclear-powered ram-jet equipped cruise missile, spewing radiation all over the place whilst also delivering a thermonuclear warhead. That’s some proper end-of-the-world thinking. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supersonic_Low_Altitude_Missile

I know it's not technically a weapon in itself but I'm a big fan (kind of, sort of) of the BAC TSR-2 ...
Yesterday's dream of tomorrow.
Yesterday's dream of nuclear oblivion.

It doesn't feel so Christmassy posting about these technological terrors.
I apologise. Especially tonight - this most auspicious of nights.
I like to think the TSR-2 could be reconfigured to drop a bumper load of fireworks, streamers and Christmas gifts.

lazybonesPhwoar, I love me a bit of TSR-2. I would like to visit the RAF museum, and see a surviving example. Killed by politics, and American interference (both political and commercial). Same with the Avro Arrow, and Saunders-Roe SR.53: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saunders-Roe_SR.53

Hey, I'm back and I was wrong on everything, so what else is new. The milkman was late, probably hungover, but had delivered the milk when I left the house, and the hospital staff was completely unfazed by me turning up in person. In fact, the consultant was very happy to finally see a patient in person and took the opportunity to ask me for a donation of my precious blood for research purposes. Then he dated the consent form to January last year. I picked up more medication from the hospital pharmacy for which one had to get past a security guard. Fortunately I had my excuses ready, and everything went efficiently and smoothly. But I would have expected less traffic on the road and fewer pedestrians out and about. Looks like the whole of Birmingham has been taking eye tests at Barnard Castle again. The taxi driver was talking about how he didn't use to take the virus seriously until several family members got ill, with one still on a ventilator in hospital. Me, I was making good use of the bottle of hand sanitiser I had got for Christmas. I was reading Stuart Heritage's "10 Ways to Use Leftover Christmas Booze" www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/jan/05/10-ways-use-leftover-christmas-booze-prosecco-chicken-amaretto-cakebut I must confess that I'm unfamiliar with the concept. Although I approve of his Eierlikörkuchen.

I am still a firm believer in a coastal monorail to ferry people along the south coast between Newhaven and Brighton. That would be Phase 1. Phase 2 would be to take people from the Palace Pier terminus up to Brighton Station. Phase 3 extends the line westwards to Shoreham by Sea.
