Morbid obsession over COVID stats and criticism of the Guardian. Seriously, don't bother reading it unless you want a) to feel doomy, and b) to see what a twat I am. The government release two headline figures for COVID deaths. 1) The deaths reported on a day, regardless of the actual date of death, released daily. 2) The deaths that occurred on a particular day, released and updated as time goes on. The second figure often takes a week or longer before we get accurate figures for the deaths that occurred on a particular day, as figures work their way through the bureaucratic system, and as Christmas etc delays things (and sometimes it even goes down, as inaccuracies are ironed out). So, 230 deaths were reported on Boxing Day, not because that’s how many people died that day, but because that’s how many deaths were counted that day. In fact, the latest numbers are that 589 people died from COVID on Boxing Day, and that may still rise as more figures are collated. 1041 deaths were reported on 06/01/21, not because that many deaths happened that day, but because deaths from previous days with low reporting were being caught up on. My best guess at the moment is that between 550 – 700 people died from COVID on 06/01/21; not great, but less than 1041. Therefore, the Guardian should be fucking ashamed of themselves for running the headline “Covid: scale of emergency facing UK laid bare as 1,000 die in 24 hours”. This is an utterly misleading, sensationalist lie which is perpetuated in the text of the article, “figures showed that more than 1,000 people had died from the virus in the previous 24 hours”. www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/06/scale-of-emergency-facing-uk-laid-bare-as-1000-die-in-24-hoursI guess my point is, if you read shit news that makes you feel bad, maybe stop to wonder if it’s inaccurate, and you shouldn’t feel so bad. Morning Everyone! How you doin’?

I hate to say it but Linsey Graham's speech was really, albeit self serving, good.

Clap for Heroes? That's a bit much; an STD for every key worker... sheesh and Netflix's price hike ensures I won't be getting that. And to the Orthodox part of the world "Happy Xmas"

"Up until this point I supported Jaws the Shark. I backed him when the mainstream media fabrigated allegation after allegation about him not being vegan. In light of last night's actions in which he ate several swimmers I condemn his actions and remove my support".

Indeed. I only behaved like a cunt because I thought there would be no consequences for me. Now I've realised I might be in a spot of bother I would like to change my position.

Morning everyone.
Amazing scenes in the Fark household yesterday afternoon. I finished a work call around 2.30 p.m. and heard the PM scream downstairs. I went down to the kitchen and smelt burnt plastic, the wind on my face and the PM holding a heavily scolded knee. A packet of burnt sausages in their packaging were seen on the hob.
After some investigation it transpires my other half wanted to help make dinner, so turned the hob on heat some oil. Unfortunately instead of turning the hob on with the frying pan she turned the one on underneath the sausages, which promptly caught fire. To remove the smell of burnt plastic from the area she tried to open two kitchen windows and in the process opening the second one knocked over a bottle of boiling water she had recently made for Kid 2's next feed. The result of this spill were second decree burns on the knee, shin and and ankle.

What's even more meta about this is that there were a number of Republicans vying to be Trump's heir and pick up his support (those objecting). Yesterday he managed to make his base so politically toxic that he's managed to screw over those who were looking to try and win them over.
He'd be a fine politician in Ancient Rome.

I hope Mrs Fark is ok, that sounds pretty horrible and painful.
Also, though, the way you've written it, it sounds quite funny. I imagine in the movie of your life, Mrs Fark will be played by Leslie Nielson.

What I’m reading is that baby is such a useless husband he left his PM to cook dinner and sort the kids out, and has been doing it so long that she’s tired and burnt out and has now injured herself.
For shame...

Surely the "story of his life" for Baby is more likely to be some History Channel shlock "Portrait of a Killer" documentary. But yes I hope Mrs Baby* is ok, sounds awful. *unidentified victim #1

Lol scamander thinks the shark was called Jaws. Apart from that, sensible comments on keeping the swimmer population culled.

Morning all!
Gamesblog: Mercenaries. Two cards taken down with bullets/explosions, one card apprehend. Hijacking an NK T54 helps even the odds.
TVblog: The Expanse, episode three.
Amigablog: thirty frames raytraced and exported to 24bit IFFs. Said images then remapped to 16 colours. I then spent some time in BlitzBasic, and have created a basic tunnel-like sequence!

Sensationalist reporting What you are saying with COVID figures would make sense if the government released the figures honestly. Back in April the figure never reached 1,000 in a day. However a couple of months later it was reported that the highest toll on one day had been 1,400. At various points a lot of the data has been adjusted retrospectively.
Now not every change has been to show that things were worse than initially reported, but the vast majority have been.
It's also clear that Johnson, Gove and Williamson in particular cannot be trusted to be honest and that Hancock can be at least bullied in to doing as he is told.
Within this scenario I think it is entirely reasonable the Guardian to highlight bad figures. It would be better if they would drop some of the less well informed commentators, but I suppose everyone has the right to be heard.

Why was she feeding Kid 2 boiling water in the first place? Ultimately the powdered milk is added to it. We are weening.
