Sciatica is terrible, best get her on an anti inflammatory pronto and some Codeine to sleep. You might need a bit more than codeine to sleep to drown out her shouting from the sickbed. Whisky and Temazepam should do the trick.

I have been approached by a publisher to write a book and the initial topics (ancient Rome) were a bit 'meh'. I suggested some others which got a 'meh' response in return and the following counter topics were 'meh' back at me.
In short it's a tricky one. 80,000 words are a lot and it would probably sideline my podcasting and the topics suggested aren't fully within my area of expertise. From what I can see the publisher has a range of books so it could be that they are trying to farm out book titles and recruiting possible writers for them. I have no idea if this is how it works in publishing?
That said I am tempted by writing a book but I know it can be a real commitment.

I had sciatica myself around a year ago and I have a B in double GCSE Science.
So yeah, I'm kind of a big player with regards to sciatica.

Thanks all - 2021 has certainly shown it to be the true bastard offspring of 2020. crankcaller - me and the PM both suffer bouts of sciatica. I find a TENS machine helps a lot to break up the cycles of spasms, as well as giving the PM a laugh when I turn it up too high. She favours her doctors option of codeine and Valium. My doctor is more of the 'man up and walk it off' type. Thinks i'm only after some free benzos. Eejit.

It may be that they've got an idea for a series and you're one of the best people for it? I don't know ... I think publishers are looking to big names - big podcasters - for books, because they have a ready-made audience and it's part of the Zeitgeist.
I don't know ...
I don't work in publishing. My experience and knowledge is sparse.

Hi, There certainly has been an abundance of shit news lately. Just to add to the pile, Mrs Bahookie and I have decided to live separately, after about 5 years of perseverance and constant low level warfare we've finally reached a point that we cant move on from. This means I will also no longer live with my son, which feels incredibly wrong and painful right now. And that we are separating my son (5) who will live with his mum and his half sister (13) who will live with me. Which also feels wrong and I feel guilt over. My daughter has a different Mum who we lost to cancer 11 years ago. So she stays with me. Thankfully me and Mrs are now communicating quite well, they are moving very close by and I know I will see my boy every week. I hope we are all eventually a bit happier this way, but still feels very surreal and hard to fully comprehend how it might all play out. OTTM: I've finally got round to starting Breaking Bad, first 2 episodes were good, would recommend.

Maybe it's terrible as in 'powerful'. A good thing.

Is it a reputable publisher, offering reasonable terms given the likely work involved? We need to keep in mind that episode of Peep Show where Mark gets done by a shady operater dealing in dusty works of history.
Can you repurpose some of the work you did for your podcast so you are not starting from scratch?

If you've been approached by a publisher then it means you've feasibly got something publishers might want. What I mean is ... you could generate your own book proposal and go to an agent, or other publisher, with it, citing your podcast, viewing figures and so on. You might find something better, but on your own terms.

What RollingEscargot says is right.
You need to make sure the publisher is reputable. I once had a short story published in a magazine of sorts. The publisher said that they paid a royalty on every copy sold. 'Sweet', I thought. Then I found out they sold most copies by subscription only, for which there was no royalty at all. And only four people bought the magazine ... Well that's what they said ...

At least if the communication is working that will make a big difference - at least that's my observation from watching friends go through similar.
As for Breaking Bad, I really liked it the first time round, but rewatched a lot of it recently and absolutely hated it. I guess that's just how fickle I am.

*Wankers I doubt the App needs a powerful phone, so any Android* phone that looks nice would do, also check for a headphone jack if you want wired headphones. *As up to date OS version as possible preferably 10.

The problem with budget phones is the available storage as they don't come with much and many do not let you install apps on external storage. For example on my budget phone once I installed outlook I could not install whatsup or the Reddit app.
Sandy - sorry to hear that.

It was a kind of mawkish and sentimental story about ... ahem ... the siege of Tenochtitlan. Sort of. Kind of. I'd written it in such a way it was quite difficult to tell what it was about. The cover artist of the magazine interpeted the story for the cover, which was quite flattering, though he added in an elvish woman with giant breasts.

Once while rootling through a bookcase in parents house I found a hefty book on renaissance art, all leather cover and gold leaf, written by my sister! She had said nothing about a book deal, and so I kept quiet for a while til curiosity got the better of me and so I asked her why she hadn't told anyone, and how did it come to get written and published.....
Turns out when she was at Uni she house-shared with a girl on a bookbinding course, who had repaired one of my sisters tatty old art books as a project for her coursework, and decorated it up as written by her as a gift.
Cool story etc.
