I'm now trying to imagine what Auric Goldfinger would be like as a neighbour. He didn't / doesn't come across as a sex person so there wouldn't be the usual noise we get from the one side. I don't think he'd have qualms about cooking up methamphetamine in his flat. To be honest, though, I think he'd be a bit more careful and business-like in his approach compared to our other neighbours. The corridor would be a bit quieter, especially at night. On balance it's a thumbs up from me, for Herr Goldfinger. He liked covering naked ladies in gold. If that doesn’t suggest an unhealthy relationship with sex and precious metals, then I’m not sure what does.

Basically there is a whole generation of football supporters whose sacred gospels have proclaimed that the only way to process emotions is through outrage. This isn't true? To be fair it is an improvement on when I was young. The only way to process emotion was by smashing things or people up. Shouting on the internet is on balance less harmful.

I think there were people actually smoking crack on the front steps to our building yesterday. They looked like crack addicts and were sitting around as one of them burned something. It wasn't marijuana. It wasn't the herb of wisdom. It wasn't the sacred oil of Solomon.
I suppose it could have been crystal meth considering our neighbours had a meth lab.

Anybody had any good audiobooks lately? I’ve been sent a free trial to Audible, and don’t want to waste my credits. You know what's great? The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz.

I recently read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula le Guin. I liked it a lot, but I'm not sure I really 'got' it. I think it may have been trying to say something profound, but it was lost on me.
I'm now reading the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson. Straightforward fantasy. Plucky underdogs trying to defeat the evil Big Bad. I am quite enjoying it.

Next up is either Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds, or Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Wait are we allowed to protest about football with no issues but the memorials for women or against the anti-protest bill the other week had to be met with riot police? Seems to have picked up in here this afternoon, people working or avoiding the bathroom due to flukey?

Convenience Store Woman, by Sayaka Murata's really good.
You could also try, ahem, Serotonin by Michel Houellebecq ...
Faceless
I wasn't crazy about Never Let Me Go. I felt I could see the tricks being pulled to make it a page turner. I could feel myself being manipulated. On balance I thought it was good, but ... I preferred Remains of the Day and A Pale View of Hills ...

You can't really blame the Met for taking the easy way out.

Audiobookchat!
Currently playing on my Audible is 'A Clockwork Orange' read by Tom Hollander. Stronger in Nadsat than the Kubrik effort, and has the extra chapter at the end, which Kubrik decided to omit from the fillum version as it didn't fit his ideas of a clean ending.
I have not reached this chapter yet, so cannot comment on whether this was inspired, or insipid.

I am highly impressed:
"A public sector worker described as the “king of absentees” by the Italian press is said to have broken the national record by allegedly skipping work for 15 years.
Police say the hospital employee continued to be paid a monthly salary amounting to a total of €538,000 (£464,000) despite not turning up to work at Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in the Calabrian city of Catanzaro since 2005."

"Francisco Scaramanga was a British national born in a travelling circus. His father was the ringmaster, a former Cuban national and his mother was the snake charmer. By age 10, he was part of the circus as a trick-shot pistol marksman. At age 15, he became an international assassin-for-hire." Does Tids have an extra nipple? Yup, I do.

Dinner tonight is Sirloin steak with home fries, sautéed mushrooms, char-grilled asparagus, peas and a stilton sauce with a glass or two, of "Château de Colombe Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux 2018"* *I just copied that from the website, it's mainly merlot.

Hello
I’m having some cous-cous for dinner. I’m looking forward to it. Just waiting for some vegetables to roast.
I just listened to an Adam Buxton interview with Kazuo Ishiguro.
It was good.

I have 23 minutes before a game of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds.
Will my vegetables roast in time?
