I had a metal back gate once. The Housing dudes welded it shut without any consulation. I feel my freedom has been violated by 'the man'.

What is a gate really? I mean unless you lock it it’s basically just a formality.

We always locked the gate.
It was like a wooden door, sandwiched between two brick walls.

I think the lengthier debate would be about whether the gate wanted to be repaired or if it is happier in its current state. Only once this has been established* can we proceed to think about actual repairs.
* Or Lazy has received a bollocking for not repairing the gate. Whichever comes first

Locked locked or just locked locked? I mean could you open it from outside without a key? How did the postman get in? The postman typically comes in through the front door of the building, and posts the letters through the individual front doors of the flats. The gate is a back gate. It was always locked, as a bulwark against chaos.

Is the gate really there to keep people out, or to keep people in?

That was meant metaphorically. I wasn't suggesting lazy is keeping someone hostage.
Although how can we be sure?

Have you met lazy? He’d spend days deliberating on what hinges the gate would need to have, and what material it should be made out of. I've got to take you to task about this Scubar. Have we met? Have we met?Only in a digital sense. We’ve played some beautiful games of Diplomacy together, which I believe has given me a sense of your wonderful mind and personality.

Just got an SMS message at 12.17 saying Asda would be early - at 12.05. This was a lie by the Walmart corporation. Or at the very least one of their stooges.

Since Feb Asda has been owned by Euro Garages and a Venture capitalistAre they more ethical than Walmart? Difficult to say.

scamander! There’s a big Warhammer event on at the moment, and Total Warhammer and associated DLC is very heavily discounted. Now is the time to get it if you want to.

I was clarifying the style of gate - the sandwiched wooden door style - to put an end to any speculation that its presence might have been a formality.

I have a gate. That is, a wooden door between a brick wall and a wooden fence. It is sturdy and robust. Admiring it now has given me cause to rethink my earlier no-gate position. I think I was a bit too hasty.

Lazy. I think you should get a brand new gate. Think of the peace of mind. You owe it to yourself.

This gate - are we sure the sex people haven't been banging it? The sex people's gate is much better than ours. Very robust. I would have known if they'd been up to no good with ours. I sleep like a tiger. One eye open.
