I remember that the Crusaders were mainly from France. They were also incredibly cruel, there are accounts of cities being taken which are horrific, even by the standards of the day. There was an expected level of clemency which they simply weren't bothered with. I know that history tends to diminish thos sort of thing. When I've been in kit I'm very conscious of this. Would be nice if they dressed as something a bit more accurate and generally nicer. The sacking of Constantinople, the depopulation of towns and cities was not exactly a comedy show; but Crusader Kings 2 and 3 are immense games. No, this is the crusader we need...

I suppose the problem with the knockabout, fun, nationalism of supporting a national sports team, is that it's only a few conceptual steps away from not so knockabout ethnic-nationalism.
A bad business.

Were you on the Moors again? I don't know. I don't understand ...
You have moor ale, from little valley brewery and moor beer from the moor beer company. It was merely a comment on your photo shopping and 'sober' nature.

This morning at 4:45 a.m. I got a text message from my bank saying that they needed to verify some recent transactions on my card and that the card was now blocked. The kind of thing that gets you out of bed early even if you've been on a live stream until midnight the evening before.
To be fair to the bank, they had sent a second text message from a different phone that could have cleared things up, but I didn't see that until later. In any case, I was keen to talk to someone to figure out what was going on. So I grabbed a coffee and phoned them, but of course these days even the fraud team relies on automated processes, so I didn't actually get an explanation but I managed to unblock the card.
I had been thinking of a number of recent changes to my financial affairs that might have triggered the process. Turns out that what tripped the wires were two entirely benign payments, one under £5 for the delivery of some flavoured milk by my milkman. The other one was the payment for the Zelda Loftwing amiibo that I had pre-ordered weeks ago and which is due to be released on Friday, together with the Skyward Sword remaster (which I've ordered from a different place, together with the themed pair of JoyCons).
So once more I'm in terrible shape today due to lack of sleep, but at least I can use my card again to, you know, pay for things. Things like strawberry cream milk and plastic tat.
I'm also paying the price for staying up way past my bedtime to play more Xenoblade Chronicles.

I've got Crusader Kings 3. I'm playing as a ruler in a small Himalayan territory. I'm not sure how much of a game it is. I just turn the speed up and watch my territory disappear.

'delivery of some flavoured milk by my milkman.' Be careful, the puerile and immature among us will jump on this with distasteful jokes.

I remember the Crusades (at least the early ones) being described as a way of rulers getting all the thugs out of their respective countries. Give them a common enemy and send them off. Hopefully only a few will come back.

Southgate: “People have tried to invade us and we’ve had the courage to hold that back. You can’t hide that some of the energy in the stadium against Germany was because of that.” It's Gammontastic stuff like this I was talking about. And the England players barely letting their medals touch their neck before removing them, thats the attitude that lets the arsehole fans believe its ok to be a bad loser and they go out and cause havoc. The good things they have done they should be proud of, but this stuff is cringeworthy.

I mean people say that there are no prizes for second place but there are: There are the runners up medals.

A bad business. This is why I like the generous grandparents/ residency rules which mean that some of the Scotland team are English/Australian, some of the Irish team are Scottish, etc etc. It makes explicit the constructedness of national identity in a way that even the headbangers have to notice.

The west London monsoon has resulted in a leak into our flat.
I suppose the leak was always there. The monsoon has just brought it to our attention.
Not good ....

One of our neigbours is flinging buckets of water off their balcony, which is presumably being flooded. That or they are just in a bad mood. It was really lashing it down earlier, complete with thunder and lightning.

One of the random food stuffs the Pref.Mam. planted was garlic, which we have harvested*, it is the most garlicky garlic I've tasted in ages. 4*
*4 small bulbs, with more in the ground.
