Good day to you (and you)
Ganes: Returnal is a right slog. Through to act 2 now though. In act one you had to, at the very least, replay through the first level to get strong enough to take on the third level. This is because you lose everything and respawn back at the start of the game if you die. What a time sink. It's very pretty though and nice to play. I just can't deal with all the 1am finishes.
I realise I'm not selling it. May need something calming and serene afterwards. Or maybe I just need to re-evaluate my life?
I do have Eraserhead on blu-ray winging it's way to me. That'll chill me out, shirley?

Hullo. I've been idly reading some of Tenthen's posts in the other place. This is my favourite so far, "No offence to her but I'd say I've got better tits.". This, in the midst of some heavy Nintendo E3 debate, is pure gold. I'm still disappointed that it didn't get a Guardian Pick.

After morning all, games Elite Dangerous After my dramatic expulsion from the Pilots Federation territory, and coming close to running out of fuel to end up drifting endlessly in space as a frozen monument I finally stopped panicking long enough to limp into an out of the way port. I'm now courier running for the factions as an independent contractor, and YES space travel does take ages! I particularly like the attention to detail when it comes to 'Time increasing' vs 'Time decreasing' when in Frame Drive or Hyper drive, you think great at this speed I'll be there in no time at all - until you remember you have to slow down. I am also a man of means and a big deal (not really). Netflix Night Teeth
As you were.

Morning
The ancient fossil-burner passed the MOT with only a minor warning about the huge crack in the windscreen. To celebrate the act of becoming legal again I was obliged to commute into the office. 2518 miles since last MOT, for those with spreadsheets on such matters.
OTTM - PMs eldest is a determined anti-vaxxer, and yesterday admitted sheepishly that his wife and one of his younglings have both tested positive for the covid. He is having to self isolate, and so is not getting paid. This has pissed him off no-end.

And something else I can't quite place. I'm familiar enough with the smell of social awkwardness to know it's not that. Do D&D players give off a smell? I'm going to assume that's what it is. Unwashed dice bags?

Super-Cruise shenanigans in ED? now we're talking.
One trick to fool the time-dilation in slowdown is to lock your destination at a point in the system *beyond* the place you are actually trying to reach. This will mean you start to decelerate relative to that point, and not your actual destination. The trick here is to calculate when to abort out of SC, while still hurtling past your real destination, and if done right will drop you back in normal space close to your intended vicinity. *Note* - This will cause stress and some damage to your ship if you drop out of SC too fast. You also risk massively overshooting your destination and having to crawl back.
See also... Why did my ship blow up? Loop of shame.

I'm still winning with only 360 miles.

There'll be studies on this for decades. I've had mates who went down with Covid prior to the vaccine roll out. They ranged from moderately ill to really ill. A few of them have had ongoing issues since which has altered their lives (e.g. used to play sport but now can't do much more than basic exercise). Some people frame it as a Russian roulette style illness (e.g. if you don't die, you are bit ill but that's it). In reality it's another round but rather than a bullet someone takes half a brick to your knees if you are unlucky.

My work want me in Paris in early November for basically a piss-up, but alas my passport is out of date. I applied today to renew but I fear there will be no sweet Pari for Babyfark. Also my photo was deemed "Fair" so it may be rejected anyway.

I’m blaming silcox for the fact that the “Jim’ll Fix It” theme tune is now stuck in my head.
His post was only the start of it.

A friend of mine has the long covid. Has basically messed up her life and her family's for 18 months and counting. No fun. There was a Panorama documentary about it.

Sounds like they are speedier than DVLA and their delays. driving license only lasts 10 years before a new one with a different picture is needed, with MOT issues is anyone driving with an expired photo card?

Hopefully it will be quicker than my driving licence renewal (new photograph). Used the post office service method, took over 3 months.

Ha! Yes, as per my last post, for about 3 months. I just kept the post office receipt etc on me so I could show that if ever asked. No idea if that was OK.

Ganes: yesterday I was too tired to play any games because the night before I had been on a BOTW Twitch stream that went on long past my bedtime. And at the end there was a raid on another Twitch streamer who was just wrapping up in League of Legends. I don't want to go into too much detail of what followed, suffice to say that it involved drinking, a cute small dog, and one and a half hours of caramelldansen in Destiny 2.
OTTM: Luckily my own 'rona-afflicted folks are on the mend, although the younger granddaughter who had tested negative before now has a runny nose. She's getting another test today to determine whether she'll be able to go to school tomorrow, but it's all pretty random and a perfect example why we are nudging 50,000 cases per day. Two days ago I got yet another letter from Sajid Javid that was identical to another one I received some weeks ago, telling me that I won't be asked to shield again and that the government is washing its hands of this whole pandemic business.
Yesterday morning I received an NHS text message telling me to ring my GP and book a flu vaccination appointment. This surprised me because every other year my GP practice has sent out a letter as soon as they managed to get their hands on the vaccine. So I phoned and spent some time in a long queue listening to music, only to be told that they haven't got the vaccine yet and will send out letters as soon as they do. Ve haf vays of vaisting your time.

I’m thinking with the lorry driver shortage they might be scraping the barrel using ones who park in Bristol harbour.

Then again, every time I need a new passport I have no choice but to make the pilgrimage to this there London.
