I watched the Gamesmaster reboot last night. I quite enjoyed it. I dislike Trevor Mcdonald generally, but thought he nailed it. Watching it was made all the more enjoyable by the pref mam's constant commentary of "Shit. This is fucking dreadful. What are you watching" etc. How can you dislike Trevor McDonald? I'm not entirely sure why I dislike him to be honest. I seem to remember watching some investigative thing he did about 20 years ago, and disagreeing with some minor element of it. Maybe that's all it is.

Maybe I'm just getting old and miserable but I found myself agreeing with the new powers. People who protest by chaining themselves to something are causing a nuisance so should have such a threat to deter them and the offence for blocking transport constructions makes sense too. As far as I can see there is nothing to deter people from peacefully protesting in general. I suggest the writer visits Iran or Russia to protest peacefully and then see how comparable it is. Quite! For example people who wanted to lie down in front of bulldozers to stop construction of the third runway at Heathrow and even made this a promise to their constituents. Talk about causing a nuisance! You are absolutely right, those same people had apparently no clue how bad the human rights situation is in Iran when they publicly corroborated the false accusations against British citizens held in prison there. These people are the worst.

I called my character in Red Dead Online a 'hobo' yesterday, in a text / group message exchange. One of the other men said that they preferred to be called homeless people, or person without fixed abode. I couldn't tell if he was joking. Is 'hobo' hate speech? Am I going to find myself on the wrong side of history? A person in a comfy house playing video games telling you what the homeless prefer to be described as? You should have told him you were playing from the shelter and were reclaiming the term.

Lunch Blog: Your face is a hot roast pork sandwich.
Gamesmaster Blog: I hear you're a racist now Faceless?
Politics Blog: Like a lot of poorly defined legislation, the Bill sounds like it's sufficiently woolly to be open to abuse and significant reinterpretation. It's not clear that this legislation couldn't -- in a slightly different cultural climate -- be used to justify mass-arrests and effective banning of any large-scale or disruptive protest. Regardless of one's political stripes, that's sloppy legislation, and potentially dangerously open to being used a a tool of suppression. The current UK government seems to have little regard for the succour it offers to totalitarian regimes, or the potential for harm in the future, when it legislates so poorly to satisfy its more rabid elements.
As well as being open to abuse, poor legislation damages the shape of the relationship between legislators, law enforcement, and the courts system. This was particularly obvious in cases such as the Human Rights Act, where changes to social and cultural expectations resulted in courts having to rule beyond their usual scope and at the forefront changing social morals and mores, whilst politicians cowered away from introducing clearer legislation, or, worse, stoked ignorance and hatred from the side-lines. And I say that largely as a fan of the social progressiveness achieved through the Human Rights Act.
Right, must rush, I've got double-maths straight after lunch.

Protestors It's only the sort of rubbish football fans have had to put up with for decades.
Basically the idea is to put you in the wrong for existing. If you then cause a problem they can deal with you as pre-guilty rather than having to prove a specific public order offence such as headbutting an officer's truncheon.
Mostly if you behave more or less reasonably the worst thing that will happen is the occasional kettling. Though the Met do sometimes like to be in charge.
Stick to big protests and don't throw smoke bombs in London Bridge station at lunchtime this Saturday is my advice.

Protest chat: there needs to be a balance and the definitions need to be clear. There's no doubt that protesters who stop others exercising their rights are bang out of order, John... I have protested at various times and ways, but never unreasonably stopped anyone else doing stuff. However, currently this government has shown its contempt for its own promises, nor its willingness to bypass the democratic safeguards built into our system. Pretty Patty, acting as Bojjer's Rottweiler, in particular has a penchant for this. Personally, I love the idea of Monbiot being chucked into prison and think that the Insular Britain activists need to be stopped fucking up other people's' lives; but all legislation needs to be considered, defined and subject to scrutiny. The loose framing of this addendum and lack of scrutiny puts the onus on the dubious judgment of the police. (tbh they hate this kind of legislative farago) Otherwise: busy doing stuff; still recovering from the double treatment sessions yesterday... There's always one:

Specifically on Saturday I'd like to get to (and back from) Millwall without having to go through a mini-riot caused by my people (and/or Millwall fans)not being willing to behave themselves. Is this too much to ask? Quite possibly.

On the other hand walking up to a line of riot police wreathed in blue smoke and saying excuse me, but I'd like to join my people who are busy causing you bother is always mildly amusing.

I think a lot of the protests are far too peaceful. Hancock, Johnson etc are constantly taking the piss and laughing at the general population while they shaft the vulnerable. Patel cant even bullshit and keep a straight face, the constant smirking by them all deserves a more robust response to break through their invulnerability. There are no consequences for that lot at all, they do what they like and will lock you up if you complain too loudly.
Lunch Baguette, brie & salad.
