Look at this poster that’s been up around my workplace. View AttachmentWill getting in the bin save me from a rotten retirement? I'm not sure if getting in the bin will help your retirement, but if you're lucky you might find some leftover KFC in there

What sort of grot got deleted so quickly?
Oh I see. It was fine when posted by Lazybones, but unacceptable from Faceless. That makes perfect sense.

I was abused on Back4Blood last night for nicking all the machine gun ammo from the ammo box.
"I bet he's a Janner, 'cos they'll rob anything".
So, I quit the game leaving them down to 3 players and no ammo. That showed 'em.

Morning.
I also didn't put the bin out because of Faceless's bad wind and then questioned my decision all night and all morning.
Yesterday I applied for a new European Health Insurance Card because I will try and visit my mother at Christmas for a few weeks. Post-Brexit there's the choice between two such cards: the "European" one (boo, hiss) and the "Global" one (applause). I decided to go for the European one in case I'll find myself in Norway or Liechtenstein within the next 5 years. Instead of simply ordering one free of charge from the NHS (which is the way I remember it, maybe a false memory) I needed to apply and give my NI number so that Priti Patel could check on my immigration status. Fortunately computerPriti said yes.
I tried playing a bit of Animal Crossing, but it turns out that Nintendo is a client of the Amazon Web Services that went down yesterday and that affected the online app that is cataloguing my in-game items, so that was cramping my style a bit and I didn't do much.

So will it be tier 5, plan B+ or cancelling Christmas again?

I played a bit of Forza last night when the PM attempted sleep. I plugged the laptop into the telly for a wee change. Not as crisp as my laptop's 144hz screen but nice having it on the big screen for a change.

So will it be tier 5, plan B+ or cancelling Christmas again? Doris will start by announcing Plan B. He needs to keep the others in reserve in case further 'dead cats' are required as more embarrassing revelations come out.

Morning all! The wind blew hard overnight, but the house appears to be none the worse for it. The boy has gone back to school today, incredibly overexcited he was. TVblog: Seinfeld. Warhermitblog: finished some Epic-scale miniatures, so have now moved onto everyone’s favourite space-fascists - Space Marines! Started on a quartet of Ultramarines. Pictures! Sweet Content! Sibling Channel! err please

'Who watches the Watchmen?' 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?'
That was Juvenal. The answer is me: I have seen the film as well as the TV series.

Also you've got to have Livy. He is brilliant in his own way. Plutarch, Tacitus and Suetonius are all up there as well.
I'd also include Peter Heather. Ideally all of his books, but The Fall Of Rome is the best. They are right about Peter Brown.
Needs I, Claudius as well
Bubbling under Tom Holland, Adrian Goldsworthy
Really you need an entire dusty library dedicated to books about Rome.

Speaking of things cramping my style, over the last days (weeks? months?) it's become clear that I need a new laptop. The one I'm using to type this has obviously developed a loose connection with the result that the screen keeps flickering black so that I constantly have to adjust the angle of the screen until I get a picture and then keep the thing perfectly still (and that doesn't always work, either). I could probably get this fixed but the laptop is now old and asthmatic enough to look for a shiny new one.
And although I'm no PC wankergamer I am now severely tempted by the idea of a gaming laptop.
Research into this matter has been difficult under the circumstances (imagine screen flickering and going black as I'm typing this), so I would like to ask the Chatterbox hivemind whether anyone had any recommendations. I'm looking for something at the very low end of the spectrum with hopefully a mildly okay battery life (i.e. at least 8 hrs rather than 6), as far under £1k as I can get away with. Bear in mind that I'm not looking for an FPS machine, just for one that could play anything slightly more demanding than Solitaire without crashing.

If you actually want a laptop set up and branded for gaming (larger screen, graphics card things, etc.) then I'd go on the Currys website, and browse the sub-category of Gaming Laptops, and pick one at a price you want and with the features you want. Laptops at Currys tend to be competitively priced and they're reliable. I don't think there's a whole lot to chose between the major brands of laptop manufacturers at particular price points.
Obviously never pay extra for offer to set it up for you or for extending warranties.

The cricket was a shocker. Though, when I went to bed, it looked like it was going to be a lot worse than 147.

Not, and I repeat, not, someone who's lived there for a few depressing years.

Couldn't find a single place that was open past 12 in Brixton though. Brixton! The world's gone to pot
