A friend who's moved to the "Blue Ridge Mountains" just sent me this "Thank you for the well wishes. Second night without power. Dropped to 16° (-8.9C) last night. Two trees had fallen across my driveway.
Today I was able to cut them up and clear the driveway, then Shovel the snow away. just under 20 inches around at the base. I have a 20 inch chainsaw and it barely reached all the way through. When that one fell it took down a 12 inch cedar. I still have 16 or 17 trees that were damaged from the snow 8 that broke at the base or were uprooted. The rest had snapped about midway. anywhere from 12 to 40 feet up. My chainsaw is probably the most useful piece of equipment I had ever bought.
found a transformer pole that fell across the road next to my property. So we are thinking maybe a few more days without power.
The roads have not been plowed but it looks like I could get by in a pinch. I have a Four-wheel-drive truck.
We got cold so we decided to warm up in my truck and I realized I could charge our phones at the same time.
I am so buying a generator after all this is over. That being said I love my fireplace."
He's 65y
