Mourning whisky: my PM's Arabic teacher was a crusty British Empire type; he used to start every story with "When we went to Aden...", and it was never certain whether "we" was him and his wife or him and the British Army. He thought that my PM was a dangerous lefty and told him bluntly that he should never ask him for a reference. When he died my PM's Akkadian teacher was clearing out his colleague's room at the college and in the process came across a bottle of whisky (no idea what kind, but probably pretty decent) that the Akkadian teacher, being a good person, shared with his students. So the PM always said that not only did he survive the cantankerous old git but he also drank his whisky.

I should get up at some point, but am in bed with pm and dogs watching the cricket.
Spent yesterday at a wake for pm’s twin brothers wife’s mother. Many outlaws and a free bar. First time either of us have been to a pub since lockdown 1.0
Yes we are hungover. I have a beef joint to sort out for tea. Might need a hair of the dog to kickstart the system today.

Morning all!
I was up at 7:10am to get the boy ready for his swimming lesson. Already feels like I’ve achieved, you know?
At the swimming pool car park, someone haphazardly pulled their Merc in beside me as I was wiggling into a space. Seeing how they drove, I decided to drive forward into the free space in front of me.
This, in turn, was over a drainage channel that, despite only being an inch deep, was filled with muddy water. Which splashed all over the door handles and boot of my newly cleaned car. Arse.
So that got a good hosin’ when we got home.

The beauty of this format is that you can restate the scores of previous matches by ignoring the second Australian innings. On this basis, England win the Ashes 3-2. Pretty good. |
