My mum's partner used to drive an armed response vehicle in (as was) Strathclyde Police region. When they first got the MP5s their boss sent them back to H&K to get the auto disabled. Only had single shot and burst.

I don't think we should be in the worry tent over Ukraine. It's a kabuki dance for the benefit of Putin, Johnson & co. The likely worst is a limited incursion into Eastern Ukraine, limited fatalities mostly of combatants, and sanctions that sound tougher than they are, eroding into a general acceptance of the status quo. Rinse and repeat in a few years time. In terms of the West, the Germans will be the biggest losers cos of that there gas line they'll have to withdraw from building, and the UK will continue to launder Russia money in London.
Open war against a NATO member or EU member wouldn't further Putin's aims (insofar as it would likely go badly for Russia).
The current crisis is manufactured by Putin with the complicity of Western leaders for their own benefit.
IMHO. I mean, now I've gone and said that, we'll probably wake up dead in a nuclear holocaust tomorrow.

Apart from anything else, Putin is shoring up Johnson and undermining Biden, which makes Trump 2 more likely. Fracturing the West piece by piece. That's probably worth more to him than a couple of extra oblasts?
