I'm considering writing to Vladimir Putin with my Queensbury Rules of war idea. I won't couch it in boxing language. I'll use my threadbare knowledge of judo.

In other news I've been reading about high altitude nuclear explosions. If Vlad does 'go nuclear' hopefully he'll take aim at the local golf course, resulting in my swift and painless obliteration by instant vapourisation. I think high altitude's where it's at. I'm ok with it. An EMP shot across the bows. You get all the thrill of nuclear conflict but with none of the burning, and the screaming ... I mean I wouldn’t want any NATO country to do it, but if Vlad was going to … go nuclear, I’d rather it was that way. Is there an award for the most 'edits'? I hope so. I feel this moment should be documented for future bloggers.
Or aliens, I dunno.

I've just been to a café, I had a toasted bacon and mushroom sandwich with brown sauce and black pepper and a cappuccino. 4* I also sat outside, I probably have the 'vid now. I have noticed an unusual coating of something on my shades..

Did you know? More people died in the fire-bombing of Tokyo than from the nuclear attack on Hiroshima.

When nuclear war's the issue you have to choose your words carefully.

Did you know?More people died in the fire-bombing of Tokyo than from the nuclear attack on Hiroshima. I did know that. Maybe the Mexica / Aztecs had the right idea ... Everyone turns up in the same place at an agreed time. Then they just have it out. No civilians get killed. Some soldiers get dragged back and sacrificed. But, then war is a bloody business ...

They also had a 'war season', so weren't prepared when, outside of this, Cortes started carrying on with his tricks.

I wonder why "your" is so frequently being used by otherwise literate contributors to this forum instead of "you're". I believe it's because so many of the spellcheckers default to Anglish - my term for the American sub-dialect. Another manifestation of this, is the gradual disappearance of 'learnt'. Is this cultural imperialism? Grammarly's explanation is a splendid example of stereotyping. Brits drink tea, wear bowlers and have moustaches, whilst Yanks drink cawfee, wear baseball caps and are big buggers. I had thought that the verb "learn" was conjugated. e.g. I learnt, we learned... bear in mind that I was never taught anything more than the most basic grammar at Secondary Modern - it's fair to say that of the bottom class* a good 25% couldn't read at all and TBF no attempt was made to do so in the 60s. Basically that stream was a pen to keep the kids from the rough / criminal families off the streets until they could get a labouring job, become career criminals (often they would get moved on to Borstal for a flying start). * the symbol was F for them (the system was X, A, C, Y, F) = Xcellent, Average, Cunts, Y r u here, Fail). However, the general societal view of Secondary Modern kids was that we were there to learn technical skills and that, for most of us, meant we weren't capable of academic learning - that we had in one sense already failed. /edits: I'm chock full of pain and morphine. I'm merely making up the numbers

Oh, and still managed another NP2 victory - a double speed game - started Friday evening finished midday - a real blitzkrieg. I was accused of cheating by one player - Shenguin and sandybahookie will confirm that that isn't possible unless you stoop to multi-accounting.

ChumblesMy phone often autocorrects you're to your, and I can rarely be arsed to change it back. So I suspect that's one reason - not encroaching Americanisms but an epidemic of laziness. Your welcome.

ChumblesSee also: “Spelled” - spelt “Daily-driver” - the car/computer/camera you own “Swap-out” - swap* “Switch-up” - change *my pet peeve is the superfluous use of “out”. Close-out, change-out etc.

I believe that all electronic devices with a spell-check should be sold pre-set to British English. None of this simplified nonsense.

I use 'swype' to write on my phone and its just too much effort to drag my finger an extra 3mm to be offered a selection by the phone of which yours I want to use. Easier to use everyone elses brain cells to translate it themselves. Plus dragging 3mm might not sound like a big deal but doing a a hundred times over a year is like 30m of swyping, clever folks like me use that time on Wordle and stuff.

Aren't some American spellings based on older dialects spoken by emigrant Brits in the olden days? It's all basically 17th century Plymouthian with a few extra bits.
