Aren't some American spellings based on older dialects spoken by emigrant Brits in the olden days? It's all basically 17th century Plymouthian with a few extra bits. It's Plymothian.

I wonder why "your" is so frequently being used by otherwise literate contributors to this forum instead of "you're". I believe it's because so many of the spellcheckers default to Anglish - my term for the American sub-dialect. Another manifestation of this, is the gradual disappearance of 'learnt'.
Those wankers need a good schooling.

I only use "your" instead of "you're" whenever the Chatterbox etiquette requires it.
I can't say that I ever take shortcuts with or without autocorrect in grammar and spelling. That's because I'm always afraid that my English teacher is going to beat me up.*
