I haven't played Diplomacy in a long time. A long long time. My favourite memory is of a game when I was allied with Scubar (not realising it was Scubar) and we used the Black Sea as a platform to dismantle the Russian monster Limni.

Apparently I've been ringing for 127 hours, that seems quite a lot since Feb 25th and I had a 3 day break.

I'm never playing Diplomacy again. Last time I got brutally bullied by Dr Alimantado in a World Diplomacy game.
Last jight I played more Elden Ring and kept getting destroyed by the same guy until I rage quit.
I then played CM01/02 until bed. More my pace.

I was very happy to have attained all the territories around the Black Sea, like a carbon nano-fibre doughnut.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

What's Diplomacy and what's real life?
It's sometimes hard playing it with the same people over a few games. There's this idea that you shouldn't take any of it personally, but if you know that someone is untrustworthy (and has previously stabbed you in the back) then it's not unreasonable to want to get them out of future games. Then they say you've taken it personally. But maybe that's their diplomacy? Maybe that is their mode of skullduggery.
Mind-bending.

I will never trust RustyJames.
Although in that game of Here I stand it was me who betrayed him. I was role-playing though- fully immersed in the role.

Surely in Diplomacy it's only other people who are not meant to take it personally? You are perfectly entitled to take umbrage if someone else crosses your invisible lines of conduct. There should be a syndrome named after it.

Separately from the above, I am totally over lazybones stabbing me in the back so he could take Russia, even though it was only 4 years ago.

Have you ever played your sister at diplomacy? {Too soon? Sorry lazybones. Not making light of family upset. Ok, I am - but with affection, I hope you get that. If I'm being a cunt for likes please tell me. Or just being a cunt.}

If I'm being a cunt for likes please tell me. Or just being a cunt.} My sister is the kind of person who would get up after an hour of playing Diplomacy (as a board game) and say 'I'm getting bored. I don't want to play anymore', and just walk off, leaving you all hanging there. A truly terrible person to play a board game with. But I suppose they do say that ... you dislike in others what you see in yourself ... I guess that's even more the case when you're talking about siblings. I hope I would never abandon a board game.

The added randomness added to the sense of paranoia. There are not many games as good for inspiring the feeling that everyone is against you. Or for piling in on someone who had nearly, but not quite won.

We never played Risk again after that. It was a Holly jolly Christmas that year.
