I think maybe I hate modern documentaries. Lots of fast cuts, animation, people seeming to finish each other’s sentences, even though they’re removed from each other in space and time. I’m in the curmudgeon zone. You need Philomena Cunk.

amipal. Have you watched Hell Drivers (1957)? It's got all the stars and is easily in my top ten fillums. Along with Ice Cold in Alex, of course. Hi What a film. I first watched this when I was off school poorly, probably mid to late 80s. Maybe I was delirious due to illness, but I'll never forget it. It's stuck with me for over 35ish years that I watched it when off ill. Brilliant film. I'm going to seek it out. Another that is embedded is one I watched at my grandparents, probably at even a younger age, during the school holidays (where I often went). Angels with dirty faces (Jimmy Cagney). Maybe they (my grandparents) thought it was a good movie for a young boy to watch. I think it was. They also gave me my love of my all time favourite actor and his films, all of Basil Rathbones Sherlock Holmes. I have them all on a special box set nowadays, which I dig out every few years. Last rerun was in 2018 I think, so must be due another watch soon. Ahhh, the good old days, how I miss thee.

They were often shown in the slot at 6pm when bbc2 had a film so you didn't have to watch boring stuff like the news. Would like to watch them again.

I’m watching a modern documentary on Mohammed Ali. It’s good. A straightforward documentary.
