I haven't been able to concentrate on this at all. For the last hours there's been a garden party in one of the neighbouring streets with a group of about 15-20 pissed people singing shouting drunken songs at the top of their lungs. At one point the singing shouting was accompanied by an orchestra of car horns. There's no escape from the sound but it's too far away to go along and tell them to put a sock in it. I suppose it's a football thing but surely a goalless draw cannot put anybody in such a good mood. I'm not a connoisseur of football chants, but at one point they were singing shouting Fields of Anfield Road (or maybe they are Irish and it was Athenry, impossible to tell), which suggests that it has nothing to do with the game tonight.
I think they started finding their voice around 7 pm and are still going strong right now.
Send half brick.

I'm watching Simon Rattle at the BBC on iPlayer. The footage of HaeSun Paik's 1990 performance of Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto should be banned as pure filth. I've never seen or heard anything so sensual, and I still haven't, as I closed my eyes and ripped my own ears off. It's not even like she's that attractive, whateves, I'm not judging her looks, but she shouldn't be allowed to play the piano like that. It's not right, and I'm pretty certain the piano didn't consent. I want to come clacking into your room, like Frasier Craneβs dad, to turn your TV over onto βthe gameβ.

What about buying loot boxes with the in game currency you get from experience points? No real life money required? Maybe I donβt know west a loot box is β¦ Iβm thinking of the boxes you get in PUBG, using the currency you earn from playing games β¦ Are they bad too? I dont know enough about the loot box rewards in PUBG to comment really. If its just cosmetic stuff like CSGO then why not? Grind away. Certainly with FIFA though, there are absolutely top tier players who are absolutely rocking horse shit rare, who would take a literal aeon to grind for. But there's a (tiny) chance you could get them in an ultimate pack, and that keeps people coming back for more, spending (often) small but very real amounts of currency to gamble that they'll get lucky. Lets look (*googles frantically*) The chance of getting any single player from the Team of the Year in a 100k coins pack is a whisper less than 1%. You cant buy a million coins for less than Β£53, and as you can imagine, thatGs a sliding scale where lower purchase power buys exponentially fewer coins. 100k coins on its own is Β£9. grinding in game for 100k coins would take over 80 hrs. Its an absolute money farm, EA made nearly a billion quid from ultimate team last year. its still a tragically unregulated market, and its taking real money out of kid's pockets, for almost literally fuck all. Its about the worst thing in modern gaming. Fucking well fuck EA.

muffratThat is bad. The loot boxes in PUBG are pretty much the only thing you can buy with the in-game currency / experience points ... I feel cheapened by all spending of real life currency in games. I spent about Β£6 on a PUBG βdancing bearβ outfit in PUBG, once, not so long back. Ugh.

A lassie in my works son spent Β£250 on her credit card buying FIFA loot boxes. Stupid wee prick.

At least you know what you're getting. The equivalent would be spending Β£3 a pop for a tiny chance to obtain a dancing bear outfit - but Β£150 later, 3 weeks pocket money and 12 days of a paper round, you've got 12 dancing capybara outfits, 4 shimmying axolotls, a pair of moonwalking Gloucester Old Spots, a dozen stick-on Captain Birdseye beards in a range of Pride month colours, a Grange Hill AK47 skin, and Tyrone Mings. I hope that bear really grooves for you though..!

Kinda puts me taking Β£2 from the mantlepiece to play track and field into perspective. Even accounting for inflation. The bells and whistles of the arcade were deliberately addictive, I feel you. I remember meeting my mates in town and spending every penny I had and could borrow, til i had less than fuck all left. Spent my 30p bus fare and had to walk nearly 2 hrs home on an empty stomach. No regrets, to be honest... But at least the 4-player Gauntlet machine didn't follow me home and lurk in the corner of my bedroom. Β£250 nicked from mum on loot boxes is bad, but how many folk have a story like that? They tend to offer at least a 50% refund if you complain, but that's still Β£125 out of pocket, a massive family row, a permanent source of shame for the kid and resentment for the parents, over an artificial compulsion deliberately contrived and implanted in a childs brain by a crack team of EA addiction engineers. Hope he's learned his lesson, more likely he'll be borrowing a quid off you by the fruity in the pub in a few years (Yes im exaggerating a bit, but not by much)

I went on an βadventure holidayβ when I was seven or eight years old. I spent virtually all my pocket money on Battle Zone in the arcade in the first few days. Pretty soon I was checking the coin slots for money that might not have been collected. Then pressing them for coins that might not have been refunded. Then I was pressing them after people had put coins in, to refund the money straight into my hands. I donβt know what I was thinking. Someone caught me doing it pretty quickly and I stopped.
I see where the spiral of video game addiction can lead β¦

If companies don't sort themselves they will end up in serious trouble. Like how the government regulates those gambling companies whose profitable activities are implicated in an estimated 400ish* suicides in the UK each year? Cunts.** *Or between 250 and 650. **Gambling firms and the Government, not you, for once. I feel like you are giving me a spread. What are the odds for 650+?

Who needs loot boxes or crack when you can rebuy and replay Skyrim and gtaV on all different systems?
