Why are people trying to see Pixies and GN'R? It is not somewhere between 1988-1992. Pixies are still one of the best bands I've ever seen, and still the only gig where I successfully got off with a girl, fuelled by a bottle of cooking sherry from Kwik Save and some cheap speed. I know you can't go back, and I'm sure a combination of time and sausages will have blunted Frank Black's stage energy a bit - but it's definitely going to be brilliant, and there's absolutely no way I'm setting myself up for a fall. Going with the same mate I went with in 1992/3 - there'll be no speed tonight, and the sherry will be from Waitrose, but I'll be doubling dropping the arthritis meds and pogo-ing until my hips give out. That's why I'm going, for the teenage kicks. At the age of 48. What can go wrong.

Sorry to hear that Scam, some cancers are a bitch like that, lying in wait. A positive attitude to it will go some way to helping her.

Concept by ChumblesIt's Tuesday. Watchmen is an amazing comic, one of the outstanding pieces of the genre. A lot of Alan Moores comic work is utterly brilliant . His novels however I would say they fall into the "badly in need of an editor" category. A lot of wasted words.

Last night I watched Will Smith punch an alien Schofield in the face. 4*

Youngling. I am looking at the big Five Zero in 3 and a bit months. I prefer Port to Sherry. Though one of my friends who is a chef suggested you can make a sophisticated dessert just using good quality vanilla ice-cream and Pedro Ximinez. He was right as well. Bowl of ice cream splash of sherry is very good. Surprisingly so. Highly recommended as an occasional dessert. I bought the compete Frank Black and the Catholics from Qobuz. It was only £12 as opposed to £52 from Amazon. It is in alphabetical order though. I spent ages sorting it in to the original album order plus extra tracks. It is pretty good, but I haven't listened to all of it. Some 80s/90s bands are still really good others not so much. I can't imagine Kula Shaker are any good now. No worse than bac then, but they were sht then.

Completely off-topic, but, I went on a Diversity course at work once with some colleagues. Anyway, after 2 days of utter bilge, they handed out these 'rate the course' questionnaires. I just wrote 'What a shocking waste of taxpayer's money'. I'm still proud of that one.

Tids there, revelling in his male privilege. Probably that sort of thing that led to him being sent on the course in the first place.

I watched a youtube interview with Moore the other day where he is talking about his experiences as a magician. Safe to say he is a fan of exotic mushroom products of one kind or another.

It is not somewhere between 1988-1992. This is quite difficult for some of us to hear, you know. I am feeling quite triggered right now.

When you think you're dropping your kid at a cake decorating thing and fucking off for coffee to discover its a "family" event. Marvellous.
The child won the "Best Turtle Cupcake" round with her interpretation of a turtle caught in plastic pollution. FFS. I blame Greta.

Tbf she was watching the younger kids winning the other rounds and went for a good tug at the heartstrings. Four stars.

Watchmen was brilliant, it felt at the time like a bit of a punctuation mark for the first generation of superhero stories. I imagined that the future of supes in comics would have to be different to what came before, but nope. Tons of great work since obv, but 90% of the genre is still get the girl/kill the baddies/save the entire planet. My favourite AM is still V for Vendetta, loved that vision of the near future (England Prevails!) and the trajectories of the characters. Gorgeous stuff. Only got half way through From Hell before it got nicked off the ward. Never bothered seeking it out again

Morning time travellers
Like muffrat, I too am 47. The best age.
I don't go to gigs anymore though as I have accepted my age. And I hate people.
I think other than Ian Brown (about 15 years ago) I've only been to see two gigs, both cover bands, and both probably over 10 years ago. The names are cleverly disguised so you don't realise who they are covering until they start playing :
From The Jam The Clone Roses
OTTM, been for a haircut this morning. Shaved the, still thick, back and sides with a number 3. Then asked him to selotape some of the trimmings from the floor on to my top bit. Like a young Johnny Metgod.

hi
I woke up just after 3 last night, and didn’t get back to sleep again. I’ve started dry-retching on the way to work too. I thought I’d vanquished that bogey-man in 2010. What’s wrong with me? Third day in my new job.

I was in a bookshop once and stumbled across a book called 'the four hour work week'. That sounded ham and eggs so I took a perusal into it. The page I flicked open in it was about how to save time at work by paying an online company to outsource answering your phone calls as a sort of 'PA' service.
Absolute bell ends

I actually prefer From Hell myself, but its swings and roundabouts, both are excellent. I live in fear of running into Alan Moore wandering Northampton. Would I fanboy the bejesus out of it and end up with him turning me into a newt? Almost certainly.

I don't go to gigs anymore though as I have accepted my age. And I hate people. The only gigs I've really been to in the last 10 yrs have been when LCD Soundsystem have played. The palava of getting tickets for things just annoys me. Fuck the internet, and fuck successive Governments for not making ticket resell illegal. Booked a table at a nearby pub for dinner tonight.
