I've barely worked for years, more by virtue of being bone idle than rich though. Sitting around surfing the box class? Not sure where on the scale that falls. Probably somewhere between Upper and actual Royalty. |

We're all on the bottom rung of society. Basically it goes as follows:
1. The Elites.
The mega rich, who have the politicians and power brokers in their back pocket. For them it is the difference in wealth which is crucial. They don't mind if you or I are comfortable, but the chasm between the groups must always grow.
2. The middling classes. This group may work, but certainly does not have to, nor do their children. They inherit great wealth and property. They are often the offspring of bankers, surgeons, solicitors etc...who over successive generations have built on the success of the last.
3. Everyone else. Here we have to drag our arses out of bed everyday to work, or at least had to for a significant chunk of our lives. Our children may be slightly better off, but it's far from certain. The group were fooled by Thatcher in the 80's that home ownership brought them into the middle tier, but this is false. What actually happened is that by being in debt to a pathetic scrap of land the first group above had their status reinforced. Labour would again pull this trick when everyone's kid went to university regardless of how thick they were.
