I went to cook some brown rice at lunch. You know in ‘Aliens’ there are occasional moments during which a character might encounter a gummy residue, and this usually precedes some unpleasantness, for everyone concerned? Well … I emptied the rice into the pan, then noticed a bit of rice still hanging in the pack, by a gummy residue. I peeked into the pan and, sure enough, there was a moth larva crawling up to the surface. Then another ... I jettisoned the rice. Maybe the rice was at the heart of the problem. I hope so … I believe they are called pantry moths. We had some in the flat. One day I noticed a larvae crawling the wall, looked up and saw dozens of them. Some still in pupae form, usually in corners or such. Spent a few hours getting rid but kept finding them everywhere. Took a year or so for them to go as the eggs can be everwhere. At some points I was killing 20 moths a day. Should have nuked the flat from space....

gongfarmer I've been thinking about these leftovers. You could remove the chicken from the chicken madras, rinse it off, towel-pat it dry, and add it to the salad to go in the sandwiches. Then you could mix the remaining madras sauce with mayonnaise, add this to the cold pasta to make Coronation Pasta, which could go beside the Scotch Egg as a sandwich side-dish.

Or you could stir mayonnaise (and sultanas) into the chicken Madras to make Coronation Chicken (of a sort), use this for the sandwiches and have the salad on the side.

Why not fashion a flamethrower from a half empty can of Lynx Africa? Strap it to your hip using an old belt and boom, an afternoon of Aliens LARPing is yours.

I'm guessing we're all more the types to strip down, cover ourselves in KY jelly (that's what was used) and prowl around on tiptoe with our jaws stuck out. Just a feeling.

Interesting concepts there lazybones. Definite food for thought. Not sure about decanting the chicken out of the sauce, but the coronation pasta idea is sound. Maybe use up the cold meats into the pasta with mango chutney and some mayo and garam masala, served with the salad and lashings of bread and butter. Fruit salad for desert. Making myself hungry now……

what can I do with a pot of chicken madras…. Pasta…. Pineapple… watermelon… salad… scotch eggs, and about 20 bread rolls? How about a bread roll version of this local dish from Durban? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunny_chowI think I've mentioned this before, but the PM's Durban relatives would point out that the recipe specifically asks for a mature curry. In your case it'll be difficult to keep the rolls fresh, so you might not want to let the Madras mature any further... Said South African relatives also make an amazing watermelon rind jam.

Said South African relatives also make an amazing watermelon rind jam. THIS sounds delicious, and I've never heard of it. Do they peel the skin off and just use the pithy rind bit? And is it a savoury chutney type jelly or a spread-it-on-yer-toast sweet affair? Biting deep into the rind of a watermelon doesnt have much of the taste of the fruit, does it come across in the jam? So many questions, sorry, but I love to find recipes that let's me use part of something I would normally have to chuck out

Lunch: leftover tandoori chicken shredded with salad, lemon juice and lime pickle. Ace. Been busy catching up with some teaching last few days, but what gaming I have done has been PS VR astrobot with youngest daughter, we're both loving that game. The very best use of the tech that I've seen. Had a crack at Skyrim VR using the move controllers and it's borderline unplayable, the way that you move and turn is appalling. Much better with the PS4 controller, but feels like you're missing something. Tried Tetris Connected on VR too, cosmic and relaxing, a great experience with headphones in, just missing some drugs really. Tried playing it when pissed on Sat night and lasted about 90 secs before getting extremely seasick

I believe the recipe is similar to this one www.mykitchen.co.za/favourites/watermelon-konfyt/but the internet is telling me that the concept is also known in other countries and that there are also several recipes for savoury chutneys.

The huge mountains seemed like hillocks, in the Lake District, and the characters were like dead-eyed mannequins. When you play it on the TV it doesn't make much difference, but when you're 'in' the world it's a bit unsettling.

When you play it on the TV it doesn't make much difference - when you're 'in' the world it's a bit unsettling. I'm determined not to give up on it, though I'm not sure I could give it a full play through. The resolution isn't up to much - wanted to try an archer build this time, but that and the shitty draw distance might put the knockers on that. Fire mage or brawler it is then (again). Where you do seem to get a great sense of scale is indoors though - the opening screen in that high cave with waterfalls seemed excellent. I bet some of the bigger dungeons and dwarven ruins are ace. You're right about the creepy dead eyed faces though, the cart ride at the beginning was eerie. By the time I've got 20 or 30 hours in I'll know if I want to carry on I guess. Might be worth casting the net out for a cheap used ps4 pro, that's supposed to improve the res significantly. There's one near me on Facebook marketplace for £110, if I can get £50 for my PS4 then that doesn't seem too bad...
