I mean… what the bloody hell? How much is Putin paying them? They haven't got much choice in most cases. If you're fighting house to house it's difficult to see how you can avoid your troops being in houses. And AI rather overlook the fact that Ukrainian troops are fighting in Ukrainian houses. Sheep2 makes the point with admirable brevity... I'm afraid that there will be war crimes on both sides - the difference is that the Russian ones are committed as a matter of policy, whereas the Ukraine ones will be far fewer and occur where rage for revenge overpowers decency and command structures. |

War is not much more than organised milling. Urban warfare is a war crime pretty much by definition. No army fights clean. It's not really possible. At least some do make an attempt. I don't think what Amnesty said is wrong, but the presentation is fundamentally misguided. There's far more awful stuff the Russians are doing. The Ukrainian response needs to be viewed through this. If they are doing particularly bad things this should be condemned obviously. But I'm not sure a tweet is the way to do it. |

12/15 in the quiz.
Watching Dundee Utd vs A Z Alkmaar. It is heavy going. It claims to be in HD but the quality of footage is not great. I think it's compressed and there aren't enough frames per second when closely focussed on players moving.
It's like a 2008 version of HD.

Just heard Jerusalem again at a medal ceremony. It's OK, but everyone knows Jesus was from Yorkshire. I like the Welsh one best out of the home nations.

Fascinating story - that of the volunteer network translating the documents - my only concern would be the potential dangers of historical revisionism. But calling it a Nazi U-Boat is, I think a forgivable attempt to distinguish German from Nazi, as though the latter had nothing to do with the former. And tenthenemy is also reasonably pointing out that we (us plucky Brits and the Americans) were responsible for some horrific events as well. War is a disaster. |
