Reading Lazybones posts makes me think drinking tea might not be a good idea.

Once at the end of the 90s I stood in a long queue at McDonald's a couple of places behind 'Babybird'. At one point he turned round in frustration and made eye contact and I really wanted to tell him how much I hated 'You're Gorgeous', but in the end I just rolled my eyes at him in sympathy at how slowly the queue was taking to move. Moral cowardice of the first order.

Reading Lazybones posts makes me think drinking tea might not be a good idea. I went on a tea bender in Pret a Manger.

I could do without tea. It's ok, and I drink it occasionally, but I doubt I'd miss it.
Beer on the other hand...

Chumbles now works in advertising?
Haven't seen any of the paints ads, but the description sounds dire. Who greenlit this? Not a woman, that's for sure.
Hey, advertising agency! Pay me some monies and I'll make sure that stupid ideas like that are being strangled in a timely manner.

I think the advertβs misandrist more than anything else. Casting Dave as weirdly suspicious of Hannah sleeping around.

Oh. And there's a meeting at 3pm regarding "library services review" Triffic. Shenguin, got any jobs salting fries? Hey Crank, how'd the meeting go? Promotion to chief "shusher" or salting the fries for Shenguin? "Bad news Friday" is usually the day people get shafted. Normally in the afternoon. So hopefully you're not merging with That Swindon Lot.

Jury's out. Looking to reduce 25% of backroom staff/ school librarians. Which is 2.5 people's jobs. Might be doable via folk on temp contracts. Might not.
We need to decide what we can and can't do going forward. Which is a double edged sword - we say we can't do x, y and z that we used to. Why not? What's the point of having you then.
Traditionally we punched above our weight for a small team and council are/were happy to take plaudits for our work. You're also fighting against idiots locally who think we're all on loads of money (we're not. One of the lowest paid in Scotland) with massive pensions (ha) etc and they have loud voices. You also have the do we still need libraries crew. Also a loud voice.
Council need to save money - but HSCP got loads of money from covid and they are sort of at arms length. Education don't get hit very hard as you need a certain amount of teachers and support staff. So any cuts are disproportionate across the cooncil.
We've a spreadsheet to fill in showing how much time we spend on various things. Stuff I do I can't always quantify - this week I spent a lot of time on one thing that I might not for another month as something broke.
Anyway, fuck it. Along with Tea, dirty stuff.
{Edit} Oh - and even if we make the money/job savings... They could still turn round and close a branch or two. And some smart arse across the street would decide we need even fewer hq staff to support them.
TL.DR - Libraries are fucked. Scottish ones as much as English ones now. At least we got Brexit done.

One of the reasons that I jumped at the chance of moving into the private sector from libraries - I was an Assistant Borough Librarian on a decent salary, but putting up with local politicians and going through the regular and disproportionate cutting of services demoralized me (1 year, part way through we had our budget cut and the council decided that we didn't need to buy books for a year... 8 months with no new books breaks the reading habit for a lot of folk. And when it came to the annual review they cut the budget again because borrowing figures were down. Fucking Muppets) Oh, and Education was cut 0.8% and Libraries 18%.

Tea: essential in the morning as a general system lubricant before brushing ones teeth etc. Can drink gallons of the stuff, but only the first one of the day is important. I Don't buy the 'cools you down when its hot' shit, that's what my mum always said, but she was and remains a Tetley's junkie.

Good luck, Crank. Fingers crossed you'll be fine.
And with you being a MASSIVE techy NERD, you'll presumably have access to the library network in case you need to consider sabotaging anyone.
"Hi boss, I didn't want to say anything, I really didn't, but young Archie down at the central Glasgow branch only logged on for 8 hours last week, 4 of which were on a website about making explosives at home".

Also - I've looked at that fucking paint commercial, and I'm a proud feminist liberal (it says as much on my Tinder bio, don't tell the bloody wife) but I'm struggling to see from where genuine offence might be taken. It's a shit ad no doubt, but reading the backlash to it almost makes me want to go out and buy a nice sensible copy of the Daily Express

That paint advert had a mere 215 complaints, yet it's being discussed all over the internet. Isn't this just another non issue spun as a big deal by right wing tabloids desperate to scare their readers into voting Tories by finding woke-ists under the bed?
