Cricket... thank the gods for cricket! And the Sarfers are 21-3 already. Makes things more bearable ... a day of public grief on death, and a day for the burial. I'll admit that I held Lizzie in awe and through my parents' explanations about the importance of her and her parents' roles in WWII a seed of immense respect was sewn. But I hate death (I am fighting that sneak thief with all my might) and I will never let it rule my life. Grief is essentially a private thing, because we all grieve differently. The postponement of the football is a profound error - it would have given the fans the opportunity to express their feelings and to come together. And god save the king would've been sung badly but with relief. So I intend to provide these for my funeral |

Every other sport is going ahead. Yet even grassroots football is cancelled. Midweek games will go ahead because UEFA will award games against any club who won't play. It's all about the £. I think cancelling the football is embarrassing. If some people don't want to go they don't have to. But the rest of us should be able to go. |

I dont buy the policing argument. What are the extra demands on policing? I've watched a bit of the coverage from outside buck House and Windsor- there is hardly anyone there.

There are also a lot of hourly paid people working around footballl, stewards, catering staff, bar staff,etc.
Most of them rely on that money and won't be getting paid this weekend or probably next weekend.

I'm certain that one reason games were cancelled up here is because the authorities correctly believed they couldn't trust the fans to stick to the script. There would have been manifold acts of 'disrespect' and furious headlines to follow. Aberdeen vs Rangers in particular.

I agree in principle that things should go ahead. The policing issue has been mentioned as justification though.
I don't really understand this idea that the respectful thing to to is to get hysterical and cancel things. I'm working on an alternative mantra. Something along the lines of 'keep calm and carry on'. It's not very snappy though. Can't see it catching on

A midge just committed suicide by flying into my gob and then being crushed by one of my few remaining gnashers. Surprisingly crunchy.
To be fair, it had been annoying the living shit out of me for the last few days (landing on my nose, forehead etc..).
I've managed to slap about 20 of his/her mates TO DEATH in the last week, but this one evaded me, 'til now.
A great story, I hope Disney will take it up.

It's arguably a result of the blanket coverage and official national mourning. You are not able or allowed to ignore it. The two main options are fully go along with it or object/belittle. If they played the whole thing 50% cooler, the disrespect would also be less. |
