This didn't reach any news I heard yesterday... Washington Post: "PARIS β A billowing column of dark smoke towered over Paris on Sunday from a warehouse blaze at a massive produce market that supplies the French capital and surrounding region with much of its fresh food and bills itself as the largest of its kind in the world...
The sprawling wholesale market is a veritable town unto itself, with more than 12,000 people working there and warehouses filled with fruit and vegetables, seafood, meats, dairy products and flowers from across France and around the world." - www.rungisinternational.com/en/

Is there any rationale for what the Chancellorβs done? Is it just that tax cuts will supposedly get people spending more, giving the economy a boost?
Iβm not sure I understand what the arguments are.
It seems insane.

It seems insane. That's because it's utterly bonkers. I suspect tenthenemy has fled to Tenthenmum's volcanic lair to watch the implosion of our economy from a distance. Note to self: Can I still apply for Irish citizenship (via maternal Irish grandmother)?

I would have preferred it if the Β£ could have waited until next week to tank. This week it should be boosted, pumped up. Like a 45 year old boxer pre fight. Not after fight.

Morning all,
Gaming. Xcom2, psi operatives can be nifty.
Ukraineblog. Didn't take long for the Russians to lose a couple of their T90 tanks. They'll be swiftly making their way to a US base very soon.
Some interesring reports of Putin 'relaxing' at his private mansion well away from Moscow. He'll be safe as long as he stays away from those lethal third floor windows.

It seems insane. The unfortunate truth about economics and dealing with problems like this is no one really knows what they are doing and most predictions prove to be incorrect with the added sweetener of some bolt out of the blue like COVID or the Ukraine invasion coming along and having an impact. There is a certainly a theory on the right that low tax and low regulation is the solution to everything, but at least Thatcher waited a while before doing that, not just leaping in like Truss here.

Seems to be like they know theyβre going to be out come the next election, and are milking the UK economy as much as possible before then.

Be a bit more entertaining if they just replaced the budget with SuperMarket sweep

Low tax and low regulation is one thing, but borrowing a load to do it, after the countryβs already borrowed a load to get through Covid, just seems really badly thought through.

Good for Labour. Shame itβs going to come bundled with a load of crap nationalism. If thatβs what it takes to get them into power, then they need to do it. Itβs not like nationalism is baked into their manifesto. They can row it back once they have the reins.

I would definitely watch the Budget if Rylan was the chancellor.
