Bonjour, Mamifere Preferes parents have just departed back to France. We managed to eat all the cheese but we have a large saussigson still needing eaten. No games. Watching Handmaids tale S1 as MP hadnt seen it. Forgot how grim it was. OTTM: Really enjoyed the First Minister unleashing a Tsunami of Butthurt on the poor tories yesterday, almost admirable how they can pretend not to know how badly they are despised by so many people. Excellent work. Her speech this afternoon was excellent. Statesmanlike, intelligent and convincing. I did wonder about where the money was coming from... and the nuts and bolts of disentanglement and/or how continued association / common areas would be agreed / funded. ...even if independence becomes actual, continued union and association in many areas will be necessary; defence is one that springs to mind, as is cooperation in Science, trade harmonization or not (the EU are very unlikely to admit Scotland as a separate entity - too many member states have a vested interest in not encouraging admission of breakaway regions Catalonia, the Vendee, Lombardy etc. etc. to allow easy admission in the face of strong Westminster opposition). It'll be fine I think. Scotland has plenty to offer to any suitors. Rational non brexit mad politicians for starters.

Not having liz truss and kwasi kwarteng will immediately save us billions. I don't mind a bit more tax if its not paying for the likes of Braverman to fly refugees to Rwanda. Endless reasons why it's a good idea.

I watched The Last Jedi too. Well the last half. I’d forgotten how much I like it, after all the grief it’s had. The only parts I don’t like are the salt planet battle, and the bit where Luke Skywalker disappears or whatever he does. Also … No-one replies to the rescue beacon. It’s time for the resistance to knock it on the head at this point. The galaxy doesn’t care. I respect your opinion, especially after the Richmond Veggie sausage recommendation. But there are some bits that make me cringe really hard.
Luke calling his light saber a laser sword. urgh
Then he drinks from the Alien teet. stupid.
John Boyega as Finn throughout. Admiral Holdo becoming EXTREMELY sarcastic as soon as she takes charge. Everything to do with idea of 'The Master Code Breaker'
I was very much wanting the First Order to kill everyone and for it to be over after half an hour.
At some points it feels like an unintentional (or intentional) episode of Rick and Morty.
I like the alien teet scene. It’s possibly my favourite scene in the whole of Star Wars.

I like the alien teet scene. It’s possibly my favourite scene in the whole of Star Wars. In isolation it could have been fine and funny, after throwing away the light sabre at the start and Luke being bolshy and the laser sword remark it just felt like he was being reduced by another cheap gag, for me. Like a teenager that was in a huff and only came out to join in at the very end. Id hoped for a bit more, just because I'd built up my own ideas.

I just watched House of The Dragon.
Oof. Hell of an episode. It's a bit worrying that Paddy Considine is younger than me.
Some proper TV.

We also have a working dishwasher and a fairly new combi boiler slash hive thingy. The latter seems to be pretty straight forward either via app or the hive controller. In other words, get a grip grandpa.

I left this at full size so you can read the reasons why they were banned. Given what's freely available on cable it's simply incredible that folk reckon it's a good idea to ban books. Halfwits.

Agreed. Banning books is ridiculous and repressive, though I personally would not want to read any of that selection.

Evening
Just watched Forest v V***a. The perfect example of two bald men fighting over a comb. Sir Steeeevie will be gone soon I reckon.
OTTM, isn't the support for independence lower than when the referendum was held? I thought I read that. But maybe it was before the latest Tory omnishambles.
OOTTM, Yorkshire needs an independence vote, and we wouldn't bottle it either.
OOOTTM, I don't know what I'm talking about.
Anyone for a game of three and in after double history?

The Forest -Vx'll x game was awful. Philippe Coutinho is the 3rd highest transfer ever at €142m when he moved to Barca. You wouldn't want to watch a game involving the 4th most expensive player based on that shit show.

I enjoyed Winnie The Pooh and Dr Seuss is usually pretty good. The exclusion of any Dr Seuss by an educational or library authority in the USA is almost heresy in itself. Even in this country back in the 70s they were amazingly popular and we were always having to replace them. Winnie the Pooh was ok, but I think because neither of my parents were into that sort of thing I got to it too late. I'm surprised Judy Blume's Forever isn't on that display, as it created a battlefield within library selection meetings; our Group Librarian nearly having a heart attack when he was outvoted 4:1! On the other hand A Wrinkle in Time was immediately appealing to a young teenage boy who disliked his brother, was isolated at school (huge, awkward, bookish), and whose family was the scene of arguments, sometimes bitter between any two members. Escapist reading kept me marginally sane.

hi
So … at work … in my workplace … a person in the ‘team’ I am responsible for turned round and asked if she could work at home tomorrow because she’d been in today and had been in more than two days last week …
Tomorrow is our team day. I’ve got a saying: ‘One day together, the rest wherever.’ I think it goes down well.
Anyway I told her ‘no’ and she went off and muttered aggressively behind my back. Then she left without saying goodbye.
Ah man. I don’t know what I was hoping for really. The same person has also requested three weeks off work in a genuinely busy time and I think she’s actually booked flights before it’s been approved. Why can’t people just be reasonable?
It isn’t much of a story - I know ….

I can’t get my head round how many people think the idea of coming into work more than two days a week is unreasonable.

Seuss published cartoons in which he depicted Black people as monkeys and referred to them as "n-word".
(We're all adults and know what word I mean, so I'd rather write the word in full, rather than pretending we're children who can't possibly be allowed to see it written, but I figured Proboards, and thereby Destry, might not like it.)
I love Dr Seuss books, fwiw.
Edit: sorry, to be clear, I'm not saying racism should be banned or racist works banned. Publishers, bookshops and libraries not wanting to promote them is not the same as banning though.

I only read non-racist Dr Seuss books as a child. Not The Cat In The KKK.
The kkkat in the hat would have been better.
