Chatterbox Wednesday

He wasn’t a bad man. He wasn’t a good man. He was just A Man and no less a man for that.

I first met Chumbles when I was 35. He took me under his wing and taught me things no-one else would. He was my friend, my teacher, and some time my lover. I’ll never forget the talks we had, but nothing stays the same. Sadly, we all lose someone close to us.

Goodbye Chumbles. I hope you stick it to the angels on a gunboat Diplomacy map.

Chumbles said a couple of things lately that made me think his health is getting worse. I didn't comment on them mostly because I didn't, and don't, quite know what to say. There was a suggestion that there were more problems in at least one leg.

I hope that not only is he in hospital, but that he is ok and comes out with some of the issues improved.  This is definitely possible. I'm not sure it is that likely.

I've had a few 'conversations' with him when he has posted header suggestions. A great number of ailments make his life almost unbearable.

It's been difficult to know how to respond other than to tell him to stay strong.

His response? "I will - fuck death and his pale white horse."

I'm hoping he just OD'd on nonsense, and so had to take a break from this place to recover

The day after which he posted this:-

"Once I can stop screaming - I might have a go.

I now have photos of how the podiatrists, who both ignored my strictest warnings not to attempt to remove the dead flesh (aka callus from my heels and the balls of my feet) - I told them that the calluses have been there for nearly 60 years. I told the first one that fucked up the right foot that whatever he was doing he MUST STOP.

But the second one - having seen the monumental fuckup on the right leg appears to have attempted the same on my left foot. And now it's very very hard to sustain any desire to eat. What's the fucking point? "


Now, the last sentence upset me. It's very similar to the last entry in Kenneth Williams' diary, where he writes, 'Oh what's the bloody point?', before consuming a fatal cocktail of chews.

He does have a particular strong will to go on. When I suggested I doubted I would have in his situation he said you might surprise yourself - but you can only go on in constant agony for so long before you have had enough. Hoping he's bored in hospital without access to his mobiles.

Personally, I couldn't give a fuck. I don't even remember which one Chumbles is. Not Scottish, I think, probably not the Red Bull one, so possibly the one with the shit jokes?

Perhaps if he'd used Romania to support move Ukraine into Silesia* I might feel differently, and I might remember which one of you he is.

*In the Classic map, open comms, game in late 2019 I think. I'd have won with Turkey if he hadn't screwed me.
