Jesus god no… It’s virtually unheard of for an Amiga to be fried by its PSU. The power supply tends to go bang before it can pass dangerous currents onto the computer itself. Time to open the machine, and see what’s occurred in there. It might be ok... There's some scoring on the outside of the casing of the second PSU, which may have been the source of the smoke (it happened on the slide out keyboard shelf under the desk so it was hard to tell, plus I was half cut). I've tested the original PSU and it's only putting out 8.8V and 3.1V on the two power rails. I'm thinking (hoping) I may have been using the Amiga as the PSU started to fail, and the second PSU fritzed itself when it was switched on. I've opened the Amiga and there's nothing obviously fucked, ordered a brand new psu off Amazon with fingers crossed Well, best of luck! I had the guts scooped out of two A500 PSUs and replaced with Meanwell power supplies. They should be good for twenty years now. |
