Watched the last episide of The Gallows Pole tonight. On balance I thought it was a bit rubbish.
A part of me thought maybe Shane Meadows’s directing has a bleak mode but also a heart-warming mode, and when he’s in bleak mode he’s good, but in heart-warming mode not so much. And then I thought maybe the presence of Thomas Turgoose acts as a sort of ‘anti-muse’: A reverse muse who somehow makes sure something bad gets made (without actually being bad in it himself). I don’t know. I think I’m just saying that because I don’t like any of the This Is England stuff …
I didn’t actively dislike The Gallows Pole.
I don’t know. It was unusual. The theatre group improv’ bickering, and the psychedelic folk horror setting.
I don’t know…..

I've been watching some classic Columbos on Amazon Freevee. I found an absolute cracker yesterday starring Dick van Dyke as a malevolent photographer. Might get one of the Shatners fired up today.

We watched another episode of Drops of God on Apple TV.
Makes you very thirsty though. I had some lovely Lidl Valpolicella.
Another super scorcher here today. The PM is off to meet pals this afternoon for food/drinks. They've got some rooftop terrace place booked which sounds a great idea.

Apparently the new Gollum game is terrible and the general opinion is each LOTR game is now worse than the last and with less effort poured in. I however look forward to next year's Ring in a River simulator.

I love ‘em.
I used to see them as a real snack compromise: End of Christmas dried fruit, for when you couldn’t find any chocolate or mince pies. Now? … Ah I really do like them. I had some Medjool dates on holiday recently and they’ve changed everything.
I can’t shake the old associations though ... I’m having to tell myself that eating them makes me like an Egyptian Pharoah.

At one time you seemed only able to get them around Ramadan time but seem to be available alot more now. |
