hi
I spent two hours reading about the Titan submersible on Reddit last night. A huge amount of experts. And now I’m an expert.

In the same week 100 children drowned in the hull of a ship and the media focuses on a few millionaire's. It was their choice, they knew the risks. The millions spent on their attempted rescue would to my mind have been better spent on those 100 children.

I won a Fortnite duo game last night. There's a new gun called the Flapjack rifle which is pretty good.

The millions spent on their attempted rescue would to my mind have been better spent on those 100 children. That’s true. I suppose there was more of an interest in the submersible because there were fewer people, making it more easily relatable, there was a mystery element - what happened to it - and it was doing something out of the scope of ordinary life.

I’m not saying that’s right.
Also there’s the hubris element - Calling your vessel ‘Titan’ and going to visit the site of the word’s number one hubris-related maritime disaster. I’m not saying hubris caused it - just that … the idea of hubris maybe resonates with people …
I’m not saying it’s right. I’m not saying it’s right.
It looks as though Oceangate had real faith in the ‘acoustic hull monitoring system’, but actually it looks like all that might have done is let the people on board know the hull was about to collapse …

And now it seems they are being made out to be heroes. More money than sense comes to mind. The world's gone mad.

I know the CEO died - but I hope the company are sued /bankrupted out of existence. Nobody involved should be allowed to do anything ever again.

So what was the regular pattern of banging? Baby's aliens?
Or is the whole thing really just an exercise to garner publicity for James Cameron?

So what was the regular pattern of banging? Baby's aliens? Or is the whole thing really just an exercise to garner publicity for James Cameron? After reading the many articles and comments on the matter I have determined two things clearly here. Firstly, there's obviously no way a beacon, tracker or likewise could ever reach the surface from the Titanic's depths as sound cannot penetrate the mass of water. Secondly sound travels very easily and pretty much anything anywhere could have made those banging noises.

I can't believe they thought the Titanic was real. Were they expecting to find leo Dicaprio down there as well?

My biggest regret is James Cameron survived these deep sea trips and I therefore had to watch Avatar 2, which to be fair was akin to having your chest cave in and a painful death.

I know the CEO died - but I hope the company are sued /bankrupted out of existence. Nobody involved should be allowed to do anything ever again. Woh woh woh. The people on board did sign a lot of waivers. They would have known the risks, in a way. I guess CEO Stockton Rush was pretty convincing.

I think the Titan submersible had had a couple of dives to the Titanic wreck before it took paying passengers so it had been tested in that sense. But then … with my new expertise I can say that the structural integrity of such a hull used would be expected to deteriorate with each dive. Oceangate had no way of inspecting it for damage, relying instead on the on-board hull-monitoring system which would only have shown there was something wrong when it was too late.
I might do a Q&A later.
