Mike Joyce was very briefly in Suede (before they were successful) They advertised in NME for a drummer like Mike Joyce. He turned up to audition and they didn't know how to cope with it. They were basically student drop outs and he was internationally famous. He did give them some good advice apparently. Ha. I like this. "hey guys, I hear you're looking for a drummer like Mike Joyce? Well, I AM Mike Joyce" (does thumbs pointing at face gesture) *panic ensues*

Why did Joyce not stay with the band? Was he too much like Mike Joyce for their liking? You'd have thought Brett could have at least used him for a bit of bricklaying or cement stirring.

They just weren't ready for a professional career at that point. It was in 1990 I think. Apparently Bernard in particular was completely overawed and wouldn't talk directly to him. I think he was a bit old to hang around with a bunch of 20 year-olds who weren't up to much. He went off to do the drums for Sinead O'Connor's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got instead, with Andy Rourke on bass.
They also had Ricjky Gervais as manager about that time, briefly.
I think Brett got his arse in gear only when Justine dumped him for Damon Albarn. A good mope for a few weeks then wrote the first album.

Kelis has two drummers on stage. She's great. In every possible meaning. Fuck pharell the rip of merchant cunt Adam & the Ants had two drummers.

Pity poor Ringo.
Overlooked once again for some Johnny-come-latelys.

The BBC should stream some of the later stuff. Mood II Swing are on at 1am in NYC Downlow. Who doesn't want to see messed up trannies dancing to classic NY house.
Last time I watched Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner was a bit of a pastiche of himself. He seems to have gotten over that for the better.

Fifth? Pretty good considering he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles. Thank you John Lennon

Thank you John Lennon I always thought that this quote began life as a joke by Jasper Carrott in 1983, but a bit of googling has revealed that it was in fact coined by the 'RadioActive' team in 1981. Poor show by Carrott trying to claim the credit.

Do not step to Jasper.
I was at school with his daughter, Lucy Davis. Well technically there was a boys and a girls school next to each other. I did not actually know her except by sight. There were no joint classes. And at that age actually talking to a girl would have been too frightening..

Burning Heart > Eye of the Tiger. I know we have debated this before, but that is a fact.

You should have stayed in touch, then she could have introduced you to Ricky Gervais, who could have introduced you to Brett and the lads.

"A 2013 poll of former heavyweight champions and boxing writers, including former WBA heavyweight star James "Bonecrusher" Smith, ranked Creed as the second-best boxer in the Rocky series, second only to Rocky himself, having only 2 losses: one to Rocky and the other, Ivan Drago, who killed him in their fight."
Wtf is this? Apollo Creed is a better boxer than the man who boxed him to death?

Apollo Creed wasn’t in his prime when he fought Ivan Drago. And Ivan Drago was hepped up on insane Soviet tech and goofballs.

I more or less bumped into him in John Lewis in Kingston. He signed one of his books for me in a church in Bath. It was a launch event, not technically advanced stalking, I have a ticket to see Suede in December. I have only seen them twice this year, so the rearranged tour was a no brainer. I almost went to Mat Osman's book launch recently, but it was in York and I was busy at work.

People are down on Rocky V but it changes the experience of Rocky IV to know the fight mashes up his brain. Even if he does kind of ‘de-mash’ it by his fight in the carpark.

Hal Blaine? Played on an astonishing number of hits in tbe 1960s and 1970s. I'd also go for Buddy Rich. After that I'm stumped. It's very much a matter of choice. Vinnie Colaiuta, He used to drum for Frank Zappa, Herbie Hancock and Jeff Beck, a drummers drummer.
