morning!
feeling slightly less crapulous today, so hope the lurgy is starting to retreat.
Coffee, covid test, and then off to distribute gifts to the oldsters. Sausage rolls and stuffing balls to make later, along with lashings of booze if I’m lucky.

Do they sneak into the attic a couple of nights before and pour poison down a thread onto the lips of all your family members?

lazybonesI also feel triggered by your sisters messages from yesterday. If she wants to buy him a fucking air fryer SHE CAN BUY HIM A FUCKING AIR FRYER!! FFS My Dad is known for years for not giving much of a toss about getting people gifts they wanted, it would always be subjective stuff that he liked or found funny , like a painting or an ornament or a 'humorous' print, then he would get super offended every year when you clearly didnt want it in your house and ask every week if you had put it on display yet. So last year he stumbled on an article about giving money to charity instead of giving your loved ones gifts, he stumbled on this article on the 23rd of december, obviously hadnt started thinking about buying for anyone yet, and after everyone had already bought him a lot of stuff. The moral smugness when this was announced was excruciating. Luckily his birthday is on jan 13 so all his birthday gifts were wrapped in xmas paper and he got hee haw for xmas. This is happening again this year and although its really for the best, the abandoning of even pretending to give a little thoughtfulness to his loved ones being dressed up like hes Robin Hood really grinds my gears.

So whatalark admits to stealing an eggcup from Butlins. Its taken years, but eventually we gained his trust and got a confession. The chatterbox sting operation can finally be shut down @ whatalark - you're going to jail

I'll pack my bag.

I woke up early this morning with work on my mind.
On Monday a waster from my work sent an email saying her partner’s mother had died. She said she thought she got five days’ bereavement leave but that she’d only taken two when her dad died three months earlier...
The policy is that you get five days when a parent dies but nothing for the parent of a partner unless you’re responsible for doing the funeral arrangements. A bit of an odd policy, but …
Anyway I assumed her query about leave was acknowledging the fact that she’d only had two of the five days three months ago, so could she have the rest now? I sent an email asking which three days she was going to take (she’d also emailed my manager and head of department separately. We met and all seemed to be of a similar opinion: Three days but when did she want them?)
Anyway she didn’t reply to my email, so on the Thursday I emailed her again to ask what days she was having? She replied to say she’d emailed my manager and head of department because she couldn’t find the bereavement policy anywhere. I met my head of department. This person had sent her an email saying I had said she could only have three days bereavement leave but that she couldn’t find the policy. The head of department said we could give this person the full five days if I was happy with that. I said it only applied to people who were looking after funeral arrangements and she said we just had to assume she was. She then emailed this person and said she could have the five days - that we had talked about it and both misunderstood the policy - we’d thought the five days’ bereavement leave was a limit for the year but actually it applied to every case. This person replied saying ‘Thank you so much - you’ve really put my mind at rest’ - or words to that effect.
I woke up thinking about this … It makes it look like I’ve been trying to do someone out of two days they were entitled to, and my head of department has had to intervene. I feel like the bad guy - when I was only following the policy. There is no way this person is doing funeral arrangements for her partner’s mother.
All she had to do was reply to me about the three days. She’s started going over my head because I spoke to her about misconduct and terrible performance.
Aghhhhh, euurgh ……

Because she is knocking the cunt out of you. Do you have a shared drive/intranet with policy documents on it? Most places do.
The emailing above you is uncalled for unless you're being a prick - which it sounds like you're not, though she may think otherwise. Your boss should have replied to her that you'd deal with it.
Bad by her, bad by your boss.

Bad by her, bad by your boss. We do have all the policies very easily accessible. The head of department is quite new and didn’t know how really bad at her job this person was until my manager and I told her on Monday. I think maybe she’s thinking ‘be as supportive as possible so there’s no recourse to claiming unfairness when we go into the capability process ….’ Gah! But this person has had a hugely detrimental effect on my work for the past few weeks because of terrible mistakes, oversights and misconduct. Ah she is terrible …

@workplace shenanigans.
We had an employee who was notorious for pulling stunts to get time off.
Exhibit A: Someone walked past the chair she was sitting on, she left it until they had passed her and the she threw herself dramatically on the floor claiming to have been knocked to the ground by said person. Too many witnesses. Case closed.
Exhibit B: She went back to her native country for a weeks holiday and didn't contact us when she failed to return. Turned up 2 months later stating that her passport had been stolen and it took her all that time to find the thief and buy her passport back.
She got away with that last one, difficult to disprove.
