We are also having home made soup today. I'm entrusting the younglings to do it with a simple set of instructions. It's my world famous Tuffers Use It Or Lose It soup, or TUIOLI soup. All veggies that need using up, plus a few extras. Today's will contain: Carrots, celery, onions, garlic, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers. Instructions: chop everything up and chuck it in a pan with a load of butter, heat gently for half an hour, add a Veggie oxo and a couple of pints of water, over season with salt and pepper add half a teaspoon of chilli powder. Leave to simmer. Got some poncey tiger batons/mini baguettes from the Co-op for smothering in butter and dunkin'. Tuffers I love and respect you - your opinions (like a brother, not a lover), but this is the kind of soup that gives soup a bad name. Watery stew. In fact it’s made me go back to thinking I’m a soup-sceptic again.

I was also made to explain Parallax to him. Tbf, he is 9 so it's basic stuff at that age.

I never knew how soup was made. I'd always assumed you needed a cauldron and some arcane magic

I had a soup maker and it made such bad soup that it put me off for a while. But now back to dicing and slicing veg that needs using up chucked in a lidded pan with boulion powder and water and freezing for later use.

In fact it’s made me go back to thinking I’m a soup-sceptic again. It can be like that, yes. And I like it that way, a thinnish broth with chunks of veg. However, I usually get overruled, so out comes the stick blender to turn it into a much thicker soup-like consistency. I think this is how the great Yorkshire/Lancashire soup wars started...

The best soup is the one you haven't tasted yet.

I was going to say a stick blender would sort that out. Not a stick bender as my phone autocorrected or I subconsciously typed.
That soup in the PM's mums house is called "Fridge Soup"
Keep meaning to try the recipe where you roast a pile of tomatoes with a pepper, head of garlic, onion. Then blend with stock. #SoupWanker

Soup? Make it, chuck it in the bin, and have a Quorn steak instead.

We haven’t got a stick blender so I pre-blended the vegetables and onion in a nutri-bullet.

My niece has sold Le Scubaru for a sum of monies. All proceeds to the Tids Foundation minus her 'expenses'.
I'll probably get enough for a packet of Rolos.

Hello all!
I got home from Plymouth at midnight last night, after leaving the city at 6pm. To say I was annoyed at being woken up at 6:30am is an understatement…
Anyway, had a great time at the 2nd ed Warhammer 40k event. Played three games - lost two, won one.
My diet of the last two days hasn’t been great. Steak and chips for dinner on arrival, full English breakfast and a corned beef sandwich for lunch yesterday, then a cheese and ham baguette followed by McDonald’s hamburgers later on in the evening during the return journey… I need some fruit and veg in me.

Avoid tuffers bad vague attempt at soup even though it's only wet veg.

Swapped the short sleeve work shirts from the wardrobe for the Autumn/Winter work shirts from the attic.
Put away the light summer jackets as well. Onto the Autumn ones.
Christ the attic is dusty. It's full of bin bags of crap. We need a serious clear out. Vinted/eBay/The Dump.

The soup I’ve made isn’t right. It’s a bit bland, a bit too salty and somehow not salty enough. I’m confused. What can I do?
I think it’s because I blended the vegetables before cooking. I neglected to brown the onions.

I neglected to brown the onions. Brown some onions now, until they're good and soft, stir in a little stock and any other herbs or spices that you fancy, and then add to the soup now. Won't be perfect, but might rescue it. Edit: and garlic.
