How do you know he was 8 years old? My companion recognised the young cove. What were you and your "companion" doing down this twilight street?

I'll be spending around £3,600 on rail tickets next year, and I don't even get to reserve a seat. Christ. I'm roughly about £2k That's a fortune. This is the point someone with a Union flag on their twitter account joins in to tell us "you choose to travel be train. They're heavily subsidised. You could drive" etc. Blimey! Even with the increase mine is only going to be about 8 hundred quid. I guess living in the provinces has some advantages.

I have a mention in the latest Crossword blog in the Guardian, for a proposed clue for "chow".
Sweet front door boasting, I know. I've still never had a Guardian Pick, so my life isn't complete yet.

pyjackson, that's from an actual article written by an actual editor at the actual Guardian. I will pretty much be able to retire after this.

Just starting series 2 of The Wire on the way home. Grabbed Mon as a holiday for the Christmas shopping. I'll mostly be found in coffee shops in Glasgow cursing the baby Jesus.
Bit more GTA or Battlefield 4 tonight I think in gaming hour. Who's playing Monster Hunter this weekend?

Whisky chat! Wait for meeeeeee!
I could never understand how the likes of Ballantines and Johnnie Walker among the blended whiskies and Glenfiddich as a single malt could be so expensive and so mediocre at the same time when there are far better and cheaper alternatives available. Single malt is obviously preferable, but the Famous Grouse or Grants are a lot cheaper and have the accessible taste of a blend.
Melv already mentioned a few good single malts, but you really can't go wrong with anything from Islay, Jura or Orkney (cf. Highland Park). Because of family connections to both Mull and Speyside we try to get hold of Tobermory/Ledaig whenever possible or a reasonably priced Speyside like Aberlour or Cragganmore.
Sometimes we go with the Irish side of the family and get single malt whiskey - Tyrconnell can be had at a reasonable price. Triple distilled goodness.
... you've all already gone home on your expensive trains, haven't you? I'll pour myself a large one then...

Good evening, I bought Dark Souls 2 on my way home from work, because I am weak willed and easily influenced. I'm not going to start it until after I've finished my Bloodborne NG+ playthrough though. Which will be never. Tonight I'm going to drink generic cider and watch mind numbing shite on tv.
As you were.

Whisky chat! Wait for meeeeeee! Ive always been told I'd mature into liking whisky. Tbh the smell gives me the boak. That's drinking bells n irn-bru at 15 for you. What's a good lightweights whisky to try? I've not had whisky in at least 10 yrs. That was a sip and couldn't take any more.

Evening.
Games: some more Fallout 4. Killed a load of flying insects, 'cus I'm not a wuss, and then some more settlement building.
Booze: Rum, I guess this bottle isn't lasting until Christmas.
TV: Babylon 5. I've been watching this on Pick. It's not as good as I remember, does it improve in the later episodes?
Music: just my AC/DC live play list on Spotify. 4*s, plus all the stars available.

I don't like whisky (or whiskey, bourbon or rye) I do like spiced rum, gin and vodka.

I am by no means a whisky expert, but I've always found the lighter coloured ones smoother and tastier.

Guilty as charged. A book reading Jessie. The only redeeming feature of my, mostly terrible, train commute is, that when I get a seat, I have an hour and a half to dig into whatever my latest book choice is.

Of course Fallout 4 is full of huge bugs, it's a Bethesda game
(no need to boo, I'm getting my coat)
I admit that whisky is an acquired taste, but once you've acquired it it's difficult to know why one wouldn't like it.
Rum, gin and vodka are fine but really need mixing. Rum on its own is good but too sweet

Very poor.

Rum, gin and vodka are fine but really need mixing. Rum on its own is good but too sweet Gin and Tonic and a slice of lemon is my go to mixer drink, closely followed by Spiced Rum, Ginger Beer and Lime.
