I'm assuming the more experienced players like scubar and rolling are dominating against the n00bs?
What? Oh....

Morning folks. Games. Not really. Watched a stream of Division 2. Looks good despite the two stars. Wasn't the Graun's two stars due to the lack of Trump bashing, though? I haven't read it, just from what I saw Keza ranting about on Twitter Apparently, the most important thing in games is their social commentary now. Not gameplay or story any more. Actually, the G article did look quite a lot at gameplay and story, and indeed the story is a critical aspect that the g bases it's opinion on. I think the issue is that lots of games have excellent gameplay and story, but far too many games rely on tired tropes and stereotypes that become offensive and repressive when they are in such a large proportion of games. If it was a small proportion of games, I think it would not be a problem, but it's the ubiquity of insipid levels of ambition in this area combined with an alt-right culture among some games that make it an issue that requires continual public debate.

I'm absolutely outraged by the ctpyrt of the necromancer Zelda reskin, they took a perfectly good(?) roguelike and ruined it by putting in stupid timing mechanics that are not at all what you want when playing a rogue like. Give me Zelda Brogue or Zelda ToME and we're in business.

In Rolling's defence, I did a Mr Tiddles on him. You'll have to be more specific, I have many talents. Told him I loved him and then shanked the bastard when he turned around for the back massage I'd promised him. I also encouraged Bloggie to do the same, but in fairness to me that bastard would probably have done what he did anyway.

Cuphead is supposed to be stupidly difficult Yeah it's probably too difficult for me, but for the people who enjoyed the Dark Souls games and that type of difficulty it might be up their alley. It was meant to harder in coop mode too. I am insanely busy right now.

As I said, I didn't actually read the review. I actually agree with a lot of what you said (shock, I know!). My interpretation was based on this tweet from Keza (relating to the review): In my opinion, a game review should take in all areas, including the political commentary etc. Which, from the sounds of your reply, this one does. I do think, though, if the politics or themes in a game ARE the most important thing to you, you're probably doing games wrong.

I would've clingfilmed his head when he was down as an extra insurance. But then, that's not to everyones taste.

Its Sekiro day! I may stay up all night playing Sekiro but in reality I'll probably feel tired and go to bed at about 10.
The old place would have been luminescent with Sekiro pump by this point, I think at least a few would have been lost to overpump. Different times.

I finished watching the HHGTTG last night, well worth the 150 pennies I spent on it. 4*
Tonight (hopefully) Gangster No.1 on blu-ray.

Games set in a well run liberal democracy would be a bit dull. (Bureaucrat 773,346 you have a new email and don't forget to pick up some dinner on the way home) If you want an urban shooter it is going to tend to be similar to other urban shooters. I'd say the prevalence of 'rightwing' ideas in such games reflects the reality that in recent decades most of the violence and the breakdown of societies has come from religious and ethno-nationalists whose ideas sit firmly on the right. Rather than promoting such ideas games are a response to their prevalence in society anyway. Films rarely deal with political complexities and nuances well and I'm not sure why you would expect games which by their nature are an action led medium to do so. Also continual public debate just sounds like the right to whinge all the time. There isn't continual public debate over films even though the tropes they portray are just as bizarre and corrosive.

None of which is to deny that games could be more thoughtful and less prone to cliche.

I find the idea that the physical location a game is set in means it has to involve politics a bit weird. If it was set in London would it have to include politics? What about Paris or Berlin?

Games set in a well run liberal democracy would be a bit dull. So basically you are saying that they approve the games, observing the controversy's within them and then approve them again. when they hit the public domain they then find an excuse to complain and try to ban said games, citing that they would cause public discord and are a cause of violence, which then peeters out into a sidelined discusssion on a talk show. And when some type of violence happens which is inevitable in any large society they bring out the 'blame the game' game again to justify their budget increases, alt-right style. and the public/gamers get it in the neck again.
