I have never watched GoT but I own the first three books in paperback. I haven't read them. They were given to me at Christmas by family members because apparently I'm known to "like that kind of thing". But if I've got a choice between reading GoT on the one hand and LotR or the Narnia books on the other it's always the latter that win. Maybe one day.
But it is not this day.

They don't fit very well in a ladies handbag for starters.

Is that because it's a red day?! edit: LotR Return of the King: "Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the age of Men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand! Men of the West!" I thank you..

I've read 'The Day of the Triffids' and have the 'Bladerunner' soundtrack, does that count? I so desperately want to belong...You've gone badly wrong there Groucho.

Most useless qualification? Either my NetNavigator, Train the Trainer or ICTL (the L is libraries) ones.
Or perhaps the radio production and sound engineering ones.

It is not really a proper LOTR quote. It is film dialogue only. I can understand why some of you may not immediately have recognised it

The fifth and sixth parts of the single LotR film, released for convenience as the third film, were/was my least favourite of the non-trilogy.

The GoT books aren't bad, certainly not as made out by some people

The story is good, but they go into far too much detail about boring shite - what people are wearing, who ate what at the banquet etc.
Too many words. That's the problem. Watch the TV show instead.

Vastly long as well. George needs a good editor. And a boot up the arse to actually finish them.
I think the books have got worse. My memory is that book 5 was hundreds and hundreds of pages about basically fuck all. The story had stalled like one of Shenguin's cars.

If there is already a tv show of the book, then there is no need to read the book. That’s just basic.

Learning is an end unto itself. Except project management qualifications. I've also got a DipTP (post-graduate Diploma in Town Planning). Any good? I was also a member of the Dennis the Menace Fan Club, (complete with Gnasher badge) though that may have lapsed (the membership that is, not the badge).
