As soon as I saw that story and got scared to death I knew Baby would post a picture. Apparently the poor girl had plastic surgery to look like Angelina Jolie. I'm assuming that Jolie is going to sue. Excuse me, but the name is now trainer, t-shirt, hospital and tower. |

It seems a somewhat uncomfortable story. Both from a legal and a personal perspective.
It is not clear how much the photos are mocked up and whether she is actually ill or not.
It's also not at all clear whether the charges are an equivalent method to sectioning, or whether they are serious charges. Although I understand the Iranians like to pile on the charges (much like the USA) to get a confession to some of them.
Iran is a complex country, both extremely conservative and really quite liberal, both officially and privately.
The judicial system can be extremely harsh, but at the same time they have a very liberal attitude towards trans people. Although that is partially wrapped up with anti-homosexuality laws.

[Winking smiley face emoji] Personally, I saw the headline and chose not to read the Guardian article, and I could have done without seeing the photo. The balance between newsworthiness and morbid curiosity doesn't seem to be in a comfortable position. |
