Don't know that one but it's a fascinating story. There are many projects aiming to compile and compare all manuscripts of the Bible, including one in Birmingham on the Gospel of John a few years ago, and boy does it make fascinating reading. The Preferred Mammal has always been dreaming of one day doing the same for the Qur'an, because early manuscripts and quotes deviate quite a bit from the standard text. But he doesn't want a death warrant in his name, so he never did. (It's like he wishes for peace in the Middle East so that he could one day drive a hire car with Israeli licence plates from Tel Aviv to Baghdad and park it in front of the British embassy. As one friend put it: "If there's other stuff you want to do, maybe do it first.") I know there's a lot of scholarly research I to the Qu'ran and its origins that can't be properly published. I read the Tom Holland book that touched on it a few years ago. I know one of the odder theories is that Mecca and Medina weren't where Islam originated as they don't seem to be mentioned in the oldest texts. But as you say there is very little published research that contradicts the standard story. It would be good if some of it were published. I'd like to drive from Persepolis up through ancient Mesopotamia then to Syria (maybe with a detour to Troy), then down through Israel & Jordan & on to Medina and Mecca. I wouldn't insist on using an Israeli licenced car though. Maybe a Kurdish one?

Monday question. What's worse: major corporations silencing anti-authoritarian voices or Shenguin's wrong opinions about the Last Of Us? Difficult. I've read Shenguin's posts. Do I get the chance to throw him/her to the hounds? ftfy

I'm watching Richie Cunningham's Apollo 13. A great film, even without The Fonz. 4 stars. It does have Gary Sinise though. I like Gary Sinise.

I'm quite enjoying the crossover between Ancient Middle East child sacrifice / Islamic tourism chat and The Last Of Us chat.
I'm certain Joel would have settled in well in Gehenna.

Still stuck into WoW. Judging by my previous record I'll be fed up of it in mid December, ready to get stuck back in around May.
